How far will Daytona, Michigan, Minnesota, K State drop? Enough for next week's match of NMSU vs Hawaii to be a # 15 vs #11 (higher if UH beats the huskers) ?
My guesses for the next poll, not that it really matters:
1. Nebraska (if they beat UH, #3 if they lose to UH) 2. Penn (#1 if Nebraska loses to UH, though I think that Nebraska, Stanford and UW are probably better than Penn State at this point) 3. Stanford (#2 if Nebraska loses to UH) 4. UW 5. USC (though I think Texas should be higher than USC) 6. Texas 7. UCLA 8. Wisconsin 9. Cal 10. Florida 11. UH (leapfrog to # 8 and pushes everyone else down by one if beats Nebraska) 12.San Diego (though I don't think they should be that high) 13. NMSU 14. Duke 15. Kansas State 16. Minnesota 17. Michigan 18. Dayton 19. Oregon 20. Ohio 21. CSU 22. St. John's 23. Oklahoma (I really want to move them up but none of the immediate teams above them lost) 24. Cal Poly 25. LSU

I wonder what it is that is making NMSU move up the rankings? They're good, don't get me wrong, and I'm not going to be the first to complain if Hawaii looses. I've always longed for a tougher WAC. But I want to know what other coaches see in NMSU. It'll be a fun fact. Can't wait to see them.

Where do you think Hawaii will be if they lose to Nebraska? Technically I don't think we should move. Nebraska is the #1 team, with 5 AA's and 2 POY's. We should really be sending Nebraska over to Darfur to chase out the insurgants. Hawaii is #11 so we are supposed to loose to the #1 team. I dont think we'll move at all.

They have wins over Utah and New Mexico who have RKPIs in the 40's but New Mexcio should drop after their loss this weekend and Utah may also drop with a loss to CSU but CSU is ranked higher than Utah (#25). This may hurt them in the NCAA tournament with their seeding, however they are a definite NCAA tournament team. However, credit goes to them for winning the matches they were supposed to win. We saw Dayton, Minnesota, and Kansas State lose to teams they were ranked above (with Dayton and Minnesota losing to unranked teams). They have shown they are consistent, so they are being rewarded for that.

NMSU was down 12-3 and fought all the way back to win it!

Actually, according to the official stats, they were down 12-5 and came back to win. But either way it was a very impressive come back. They were down 14-9 and they held on to win. Their 3 loses have come from Nebraska, Texas, and Hawaii. Sweeps at Nebraska and on a nuetral court against Texas, and the loss in Las Cruces in 5 to Hawaii. You can't penalize a team for those loses.

He wasn't talking about NMSU of the WAC, but New Mexico of the Mountain West. New Mexico State deserves their ranking. didn't they beat Louisville as well? Gotta check their schedule for that one. Just checked...they did beat Louisville 3-2 in Lincoln.

New Mexico State deserves their ranking, they are a very good team. They have improved a lot since those losses earlier in the season. And to mistake a very good volleyball program like New Mexico State, with New Mexico is a shame.

Minnesota will probably drop out of the top 25. If not out, damned close. Right now they have two good wins -- Michigan and San Diego, both at home -- and three bad losses -- Northwestern and MSU on the road, and Illinois at home. In addition, they've been hammered by PSU and Cal, lost to Ohio at home, and been swept by Wisconsin.
Pretty hard to make a strong case for them at this point, other than on faith.

Make it easy on yourselves -
UNM = New Mexico NMSU = New Mexico State
Don't worry - the two schools get confused all the time.
