American was defeated by Army in 4. American rarely loses. They have a phenomenal record in the Patriot League. American is 8-1, Army 7-2
Arizona St lost to Stanford, now they're at 11-11. Their chances for tourney is fading quick.
Arkansas swept by Ole Miss and LSU.
Clemson sweeps BC and Maryland, 11-0 in ACC
Creighton swept by Northern Iowa
Lamar 9-0 in Southland play. Who are they?
Louisiana Monroe 0-24 on the year! yikes
St Marys defeated Pepperdine in 5
Princeton held off Dartmouth in a 5 gamer to lead Ivy League 7-0
Tennessee 3-9 in SEC after losing to Mississippi St and Alabama
Western Kentucky defeated MTSU, but then loses to New Orleans in 5

Arizona St lost to Stanford, now they're at 11-11. Their chances for tourney is fading quick. 9-remaining matches. An 11-11 record. That means they have to finish 5-4. @ Oregon State, @ Oregon, WSU, UW, @arizona, stanford, @ Cal, UCLA, USC. Assuming they beat OSU, UA, and WSU (lower Pablos), they would need 2 upsets. I think it goes without saying, if ASU finishes with a winning record, they'd be NCAA caliber team.

... I think it goes without saying, if ASU finishes with a winning record, they'd be NCAA caliber team. Harrumph. What does "NCAA caliber" mean? There are a dozen or so conferences where the conference champion (and winner of an automatic bid) will likely be a team with a lower Pablo rank than WSU. Or look at OSU. For all the challenges they'll have finishing with a winning record, their rank is 46 in Pablo and 42 in RKPI. Good enough for a field of 64, wouldn't you think? This is what happens when half the conference is ranked. Occasionally there's at least one Pac-10 team that's "NCAA caliber" but simply couldn't get enough wins to be invited; this year there could be more. I won't argue that a team with a losing record should be in the dance. But sometimes it seems unfair to a team like ASU that they're in the conference they're in.

NCAA at-larges usually run out to about the top 45 or so. Keep in mind, of course, that if ASU is even NCAA eligible, it means that they will have two wins against Oregon, Cal, UCLA, USC, Washington, or Stanford. That would move them a lot higher than they are now in Pablo, and could very well put them in the top 40. That would be NCAA caliber by any measure.

As of 10/15 ASU is already in the top 40 in Pablo (I haven't seen this week's rankings yet. Got any inside info to share?). It's their RKPI/RPI that needs help, and the couple of wins among the Pac-10 top 5 would probably help them. I guess the point I was trying to make is that in the Pac-10 for the last few years it's been harder to get enough wins to be considered for the NCAAs than it is to be "NCAA caliber".

Heheh, [lowblow]So, does that explains Washington's non-conference schedule?[/lowblow] Seriously though, ASU is really hurt by their losses to Texas Tech, Virginia, and San Jose State. If they don't make the big dance, its their own fault.

Heheh, [lowblow]So, does that explains Washington's non-conference schedule?[/lowblow] Heheh yourself. Never let it be said that I don't appreciate a good dig. Nothing explains Washington's preseason schedule. About all I do is just look at it, scratch my head, and say "well, I guess it's working for them...."
