OMAHA –The Omaha police union will be asked to approve a contract that would include some benefits for domestic partners. The new contract was negotiated by union representatives and the mayor’s office. It would provide funeral leave and sick leave for officers with domestic partners. If ratified by union members, the contract with go to the city council for consideration.
City Councilman Chuck Sigerson announced his opposition to the domestic partnership benefits. Chuck said he would vote against it because of his religious & moral beliefs.
Last year Chuck was charged with disturbing the peace at a Red Robin restaurant. One other person in is party was charged with third degree sexual assault. The two individuals harassed a young girl that was dressed in the Red Robin mascot/costume. These two both admitted having had several drinks & decided they wanted their pictures taken with the “Red Robin” she took offense when Chuck pulled on the back of her costume and exposed her undergarments while the other individual grab at the front of the constume & made vulger comments. Chucks trial ended in a hung jury. Chuck admitted they probably were a little too playful with the mascot but didn’t think what he did should be considered disturbing the peace.
Very Noble Chuck!!!. We’re not even talking about pension or insurance here, only that a gay officer get paid sick leave to be with a partner or ever attend a funeral of family member of the partner, this benefit is available to all the officers who also put their lives on the line everyday. I think God would be so proud of you. So caring & compassionate. .
