Does Cal not recognize mens volleyball as a varsity sport? They don't have a web page for the mens team.

Does Cal not recognize mens volleyball as a varsity sport? They don't have a web page for the mens team. As mentioned before, it's a club team. They're playing several NCAA opponents this season, including UCSD, USC, Pacific, and Stanford. They do have their own website though. www.calvball.1afm.comThe highlight (or lowlight) of last season was William Hung's first public appearance in the match against San Jose State.

Does Cal not recognize mens volleyball as a varsity sport? They don't have a web page for the mens team. Long story. There are fewer than 25 NCAA Div-I men's VB teams. I understand that Cal had a D-I team, but discontinued it before I attended. The club team has been successful in the past, with several NIRSA championships and some very good showings in the 90's. Lee Maes was their head coach for a few years, although he left to concentrate on coaching women's VB. His bio says he coached there until 2000, but I seem to recall '99 was his last year.

USC played extremely well last night. The last time they spanked someone like this was 2 years ago against Lewis at the USC north gym.

Cal did ok last nite. Two starters out injured/ill. 3rd major player still overseas with relatives after tsunami death. Two frosh had significant court time.
Cal was up game 2 28-27 I believe.
When we get everyone back and get in sync here we'll see how they do.

California men's club team ranked #11 in preseason NIRSA Men's Division 1 poll.

Many play extensive schedules against NCAA competition, although they're technically "exhibitions". I remember stories about the Cal club team going to Hawaii for a couple of matches. Apparently some of the Cal players were shopping at a mall, and people came up to them asking for autographs and mentioning that they saw them on TV. It seemed to be a great experience and all expenses were paid by the UH athletic dept.

The Hawaii trip was a blast. Cal has gone twice. 1996 and 2001. Unfortunately though, all expenses were covered by the Cal players. Hawaii players were right hospitable and hosted a great beach party one night too. Cal Alumni in Hawaii hosted a dinner on the first trip and a sumptous Sun brunch was enjoyed by all on the first trip too...., entrance to the Outrigger Club obtained by Cal player and mbr of OC, as he grew up in Hawaii.
So much ratty weather these days in Calfiornia it would be a delight to be there!

I stand corrected. I extended what I heard about Hawaii's in-season tournament invites, and I assumed this applied to some of their regular schedule opponents.
