Loyola Men’s Volleyball Rolls Over Newman 3-0
Full team effort leads to win
Chicago, Ill. (January 14, 2005) – The Loyola men’s volleyball team began their season off to a perfect start tonight in Alumni Gym, defeating the Newman Jets in three games (30-15, 30-25, 30-14). The Ramblers came out strong in the first game and kept the energy up for the sweep.
Scott Greene led the Ramblers in kills with a new career-high of 14 kills, while junior Corey Kloos tied his career-high 10 kills, hitting a team high .714. Loyola outhit Newman .538 to .205 for the match and in the third game hit .875.
Sophomore Brian Guntli recorded 23 assists, adding 2 kills and one serve ace. Junior Ryan Martin stepped in the third match dishing in another 17 assists.
The Ramblers had 14 team blocks compared to the Jets’ four, leading those blocks for the Ramblers was sophomore James Grunst who also added in eight kills.
Seeing action in their first collegiate games were Joe Pawlikowski and Nathan Gustus, both hitting 1.000 to seal the win for the Ramblers.
Loyola’s next match is this Sunday at Alumni Gym against Lindenwood University, game time set for 2 p.m
