Ball State Volleyball Remains Undefeated With 3-0 Win Over Carthage
MUNCIE, Ind. – In a match that was filled with streaks, the Ball State University men’s volleyball team came through with just a few more good ones than Carthage College, eventually defeating the Redmen 3-0 (30-12, 30-28, 30-18) Friday Night at Worthen Arena.
Junior attackers Luis Castera and Zoran Grabovac led BSU with 10 kills apiece, while junior setter Dave Carlson added 25 assists and 10 digs – both team highs.
“Zoran had another really good night offensively,” head coach Joel Walton said. “He was hitting some really hard shots and hitting with great efficiency throughout the match.”
Sophomore attacker Doug Willmann saw his first action of the year, making the most of it with a kill on his only attack attempt, plus the only solo block of the match.
Redshirt-freshman Ian Peckler received his first start at the libero position for Ball State. Peckler helped set up the Cardinals’ offense by recording four digs and 22 service receptions to spark the attack.
“Peckler passes more consistently in the service/reception style of game, plus we wanted to put him out there when the pressure wasn’t as high to see what he could do,” Walton added. “Arturo Rivera did a good job for us the first two matches, so they are still battling for the starting spot at libero.”
The Cardinals, now 3-0 on the season, open conference play with a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match at Lewis Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
