UCLA Sweeps UCI for First Conference Victory Johnson, Kraushaar combine for 24 kills.

The top-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team defeated UC Irvine Saturday night in the MPSF opener for both teams at Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins won 30-22, 36-34, 30-23 in 80 minutes before 262 fans. The victory raised the Bruins' overall record to 5-0, 1-0 in league play. The Anteaters fell to 1-4, 0-1.
Seniors Paul Johnson and Kris Kraushaar combined for 24 kills to lead the Bruins, who now lead the series with UCI, 47-3. Kraushaar also recorded three aces and hit .562. Johnson contributed two block assists and hit .706 (12-0-17). Senior Jonathan Acosta added 10 kills and two total blocks. Setter Gaby Acevedo recorded 45 set assists and sophomore Steve Klosterman led the team with eight digs.
Jon Steller of UC Irvine led the visitors with 19 kills (.306) and 20 points and Jason Jablonsky added 12 kills (.320).
The Bruins continue their homestand next week with two matches. On Wed., Jan. 19, UCLA hosts Pepperdine and on Fri., Jan. 21, the Bruins host the 28th Annual Kilgour Cup against USC. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
