Runaway (by Alice Munro) Now reading this short story collection. Munro is one of the best short story writers in the western world. Nothing outrageous happens. Just life. Mostly domestic life. But all very interesting.

In the ebook version of Tombs, there is an afterward from Le Guin that was written in 2012. She has many interesting things to say, including some discussions of gender roles and a distinction between two kinds of power -- "power to", which is strength and ability and knowledge, and "power over", which is domination and authority. Very often women (especially fictional women) may have the first kind of power but are not allowed to have the second kind. This is the case of the central character in the story.
Le Guin talks about how, in 1969, she really didn't have any template for writing a story where a woman had "power over". She also expresses the idea that even today, many "powerful women characters" don't always seem to be women in any essential sense.

may not be able to switch back and forth between non-fiction and fiction.
