LBSU Downs Stanford in Three Sliti Pours in 18 Kills

LONG BEACH, CA – The Long Beach State men’s volleyball team defeated the Stanford Cardinal 3-0 in an MPSF match in The Pyramid on Wednesday night. Game scores were 30-27, 30-23, 34-32.
Long Beach State improved to 4-2 (2-1 MPSF), while Stanford fell to 2-4 (1-2 MPSF). Yassir Sliti paced The Beach with 18 kills for a .353 hitting percentage, while adding six digs and two blocks. Robert Tarr added 12 kills, four digs, and three blocks. Tyler Hildebrand registered 51 assists, three digs, and two kills and directed the 49er offense to a .368 hitting percentage (57-18-106). Both Teddy Liles and Nate Hagstrom combined for 18 kills and five blocks. Paul Munoz posted a match-best 13 digs. David Vogel connected for 10 kills for Stanford in the losing effort.
The 49ers unlocked a 25-25 tie with a 5-2 run to capture game one, 30-27. Sliti tallied five kills in the frame for a .556 hitting percentage, while Budinger added four kills. LBSU clicked for a .517 hitting percentage (18-3-29). Chris Ahlfeldt and Vogel both registered five kills each for The Cardinal. Long Beach State rallied from a 7-11 deficit with a 4-0 run, capped off by a Stanford attack error. A 49er attack error, followed by an Ahlfeldt kill put Stanford up 17-15. The 49ers responded with a Hagstrom kill and a Stanford attack error to tie the score at 18-18. Stanford never held a lead the rest of the game.
Long Beach State took a 2-0 match lead after a 30-23 game two victory. Sliti added six more kills in the set, while Hagstrom added four more kills. LBSU kept its hot hitting, posting a .462 clip (18-6-26), while Stanford cooled off and hit a -.087 (7-9-23).
The 49ers ended the match 34-32 in the third and final frame.
LBSU faces Pacific on Friday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in The Pyramid.

Its hard to believe that the Cardinal hit that badly but still kept it a close match.

Its hard to believe that the Cardinal hit that badly but still kept it a close match. Stanford was also without Ben Reddy, one of their starting outsides, and didn't make the trip to SoCal. Last weekend, they didn't have Schwarzapel and Manov on their lineup.
