No. 12 Ohio State Men's Volleyball Defeats St. Francis, 30-23, 30-24, 30-27
Buckeye Layne Dreven scores a career-high 14.5 points against the Red Flash
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 12th-ranked Ohio State (6-1 overall) men's volleyball team, behind a career-high 14.5 points from Layne Dreven (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.), St. Francis (Pa.) (1-5), 3-0 (30-23, 30-24, 30-27) Friday night in Loretto, Pa. Dreven recorded a career-high 11 kills while hitting .529. He added two ace serves and three assist blocks for the Buckeyes. OSU's Mark Greaves (Jr., Fenton, Mo.) added 14 points for Ohio State with 14 kills (.214) in the match. Marc Honore of St. Francis had a match-high 15.5 points for the Red Flash with 11 kills (.556), two solo and five assist blocks with Dave Paschel adding 10 points on nine kills (.182) and two assist blocks.
For the match Ohio State hit .315 to .309 for St. Francis. Each squad recorded 45 kills in the match with the Buckeyes outserving the Red Flash, two to one on Dreven's two ace serves. Defensively, St. Francis had a 31 to 20 margin in digs with Brandon Kelly and Jim Fazzini recording a match-high six digs each. At the net, the Red Storm controlled the net with a 10 to four advantage in team blocks. Honore produced a match-high seven blocks with two solos and five assists. St. Francis setter Josh Springer recorded 40 assists to 38 for OSU's Daniel Mathews.
Ohio State continues a two match road trip with a contest at No. 6 Penn State (3-2, prior to Friday match against Rutgers-Newark) Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall. The match will be televised live by College Sports Television (CSTV).
