It is really disconcerting that the order of thread topics is constantly changing, based on which have most recently had a message posted in them. It's really, really hard to figure out where new content is.
My suggestion would be to leave threads in the order they are posted.

Just look at the date and time! That tells you where the new content is. Also, as you noticed, whenever a thread has been updated, it moves to the top. I like that feature. It puts the "hot" topic up top where it belongs. Otherwise, what if the hot topic was created long time ago so that now, it's on page 9. Unless i go to p. 9, I won't even know it's hot topic. It's best to leave it as is. This is standard board operating procedure.

I didn't like the rotating posts either. At first. But, after you read them all, then you check back every 3 hours, and you can read the new replies. All you need is time! lol

There are some features that I like and some I don't. I like the stats info. That was nice. I like the formatting palettes and smiley faces. I like archiving capability.
I don't like that people don't respond to the posts anymore. They just check in and leave. The old board is better. It's easier to reply and fast. I also don't like the fact that you don't know who is replying to whom. You have to read the whole thing. You don't know which one you already read.
I miss the old board. I can just keep refreshing and I know if someone has replied my post or not. No matter how silly some of the posts are, you will see people make a comment about them. It's fun to read. This new board is just way too slow.

Overall, this board is a big improvement over the old 24/7. I like it a lot better today that when I first saw it a week ago. However, I do prefer that the queuing or sequencing remain the same as they were when it was first posted rather that constantly putting the thread of the most recent addition up to the top. I can then use the "new" to tell me if something has posted after I last checked it. Granted, if something gets 3 or 4 pages back, I might not go back and check it, but as with 24/7, items could then be reposted to put it up near the top if there is still significant discussion about it. But, I can sure live with this if I have to.

way too much time on his hands LOL
Some of us are not going to visit this site multiple times per day. I have a few other things going on that require my attention.
It appears we won't get a consensus on the ordering of messages. Oh well, it was worth talking about.
