In watching a few of the off-beat sports (Drassage (sp?), fencing), the announcers mentioned that they were doing the commentary from New York.
In watching the VB matches, it seems that they could be across the world too. I didn't hear any comments about "talking to a player" and there doesn't seem to be any court-side seats for them.
Is this more common these days? It's something they would never think of with the major sports in this country.

Announcers for a lot of "smaller" sports are calling the games/matches from a studio in New York. I think they sent people over to cover track, swimming, basketball and gymnastics, but the other sports, I think people are calling from the states. I know all the soccer games are that way, I imagine it's the same for these other sports.
