volleyball.teamusa.org/blog/blog/183I just had a brief email exchange with Bill Kauffman of USAV, he is the Manager, Media Relations and Publications for USAV and the press liason for the women's team. He is absolutely swamped with work obviously as well as emotions. He said that one thing people don't realize is how close the veterans are with Wiz and how devastated they all are. No real news to tell he said, and he also said he won't be updating his blog soon because of all the other press requests. He did say to keep an eye out on Heather Bown blogs as she may be able to blog before he can get to it. Remember that they can't actually report news on these things, they are strictly about personal feelings and observations. He was on his way to the USA/Cuba match.

Thanks for the link. I understand that the Bachmans were huge USA fans too. And that the veterans are not only close to Wiz but also know her parents well. You can see how emotional some of them get once the match is over and when they're not playing. I hope Bown gets the chance to blog after every match.

Quote of the blog entry...
"One thing about the Japanese… I love watching them play. They are so awesome at defense, and when they pass well their combos are so fast…but when I am playing against them…god it is annoying. Ha"

volleyball.teamusa.org/blog/post/186Here is Joan Powell's Blog. Pull up a chair and a cool drink, its a long one. She detailed the team's experience from their swag party in California, getting the Olympic stuff, to moving into the Olympic Village, to their surroundings and then to the Opening Ceremony. Very interesting. I knew they got a lot of stuff, but didn't know they got THAT much stuff.

volleyball.teamusa.org/blog/post/198Joan Powell has updated her blog. She kindof goes into detail on what happened tothe women's team the day they played Japan and found out about the Bachmans. Heather Bown has also updated her blog. It sounds like Joan is laying things out for people and Bown is trying to not use tragedy as an excuse. From Powell's blog, I think the women's team is a high wire act right now.

“Somewhere behind the athlete you've become and the hours of practice and the coaches who have pushed you is a little girl who fell in love with the game and never looked back... play for her."
From Heather Bown's Blog for August 19. Just a short note.
