When everything is completed -- with USA v. Cuba still to come -- will this be the biggest day for volleyball in this country ever? The publicity and exposure -- and quality of play -- has been all we could ask for.
Doesn't mean there won't be bigger days ahead, knock on wood, but it sure is great to see this.

As impossible as it may seem, USA Volleyball as an organization is looking pretty good right now. This is a better scenario than absolutely anyone could have imagined. I am predicting A Gold, Silver, Bronze and a fourth.

Let's not conflate the fact that we are still talking about volleyball and the United States of America. I think what we do have is an opportunity to be one of the major stories of the second week and thus the Olympics in the United States. The fact that US performance has been down makes us look good as both the indoor teams' performance will come as a surprise to the casual fan. The adversity that both teams have faced will also be revisited during recaps of these Games. So, as of now, it almost looks like the perfect storm for USA volleyball if our teams can continue to win. They deserve a lot of support for their hard work and I only hope NBC gives them due credit in their broadcasts. If they choose not to, well, none of this really matters as far as the general public is concerned.

OK, the quality of the last match was not the best, but I'll take it.

Late late last night Dalhausser/Rogers won. Then early this morning, the US men win, then Misty/Kerri and now this improbably sweep. I'd say it was as good a day for US volleyball as there has ever been. At the worst, it'll be a gold, 2 silvers and a 4th.

No, they're playing for gold tomorrow. The US women play for gold. The US men are the only ones who could potentially finish 4th.

So, you don't think that USA will possibly have all four teams in the finals? At $25,000 per player for a gold medal, this might cost the USOC a pretty penny this year. No wonder they wanted their cut for sponsoring Chicago as a candidate city for 2016.
