The New Yorker Phaed if infamous for their very left leanings. What would you have thought if Hilliary had refused to support Obama. Would you have called her a maverick. Hypocrites.

Did you even read the article? Do you know what Chuck Hagel believe in? I don't agree with his social stance but he is a small government conservative, kind of along the lines of Goldwater and Reagan, but the fact that he is being treated like poison by the Republicans now whereas Clinton is still a part of the Democratic party speaks volumes.

If Hilliary had refused to support Obama do you know what her party would have treated her like? I am not condoning it but it is politics as usual. Hagel made that choice and I do admire his guts but....what do you expect?

... Do you know how many times you have used the Joe Lieberman thing? Yes, I admit you can name A LOT more Republicans who've endorsed Obama, than I can name Democrats who've endorsed McCain. You win.

You could have chosen the high road. There are a number of other conservatives (besides Hagel, Reagan's Chief of Staff, Buckley, St Louis Post Dispatch, etc.) who have shown they are not racists, morons or religious nuts. I don't agree with Hagel on a number of issues, but at least he is intellectually honest.

The very politically left wing New Yorker uses Hagel to further their own agenda and then others promote it on this forum to also further their own,...... and you have the audacity to talk about the High Road? Do you think Hagel appreciates that?

The very politically fascist Fox News NEVER uses their bully pulpit to further their agenda.
The GOP has over the years become a conglomeration of many factions: traditional small government conservatives, Straussian neo-conservatives, Friedman cult of free marketers, religious fundamentalists etc. I think most people have a list of what they hold most dear within the party, a small government conservative may not really care for the social agenda, the LIbertarian minded don't much care for the Straussians, etc. What these men and women, who were the traditional Republican base are finding out that if the radicals within the party have their way, there won't be room for them anymore, which is why a lot of them are leaving for the Libertarians or have publicly disvowed the party ticket in general. They see the selection of Palin as an appeasement to the social conservative faction, which in and of itself is no big deal, but they really are angered by the lack of forethought that was put into the decision, as Powell has intimated. Hagel's take is a little different, he definitely has a higher set of moral standards when it comes to politics, which makes him an anomaly. Even during the good times, Hagel was always a thorn in the side of the Republican establishment.
Democrats have gone through this chaos on a yearly basis, mainly because the Democratic party base is a lot more heterogeneous, therefore they know how to co-exist. The whole blowup with Hilary ended well for the party, but the party would have dealt with it, probably in the most public and clumsy way possible, given the fact that this IS the Democratic party, but they would have dealt with it.

Oh brother...here we go again with gee ...I have no explanation for that so I will attack Fox news. and in other words............most republican representatives are not of "high moral standards," but democrats are ? Palin..... I watched a peice on her on Entertainment tonight of all places but it was my favorite view of all the candidates. Mary Hart sat down and just had a conversation and without the guard up I found out far more than before. I like Obama even better.....he is a thoughtful, deep, and very wise man for his age. Michelle Obama- tough, goal oriented, and compassionate. Bidens wife- tremendously impressive lady with more caring and class that anyone would have known. Doesn't really care for the spotlight and its charming. John and Cindy McCain- adopted a daughter with the cleft palette and brought her home to America to give her a better life and medical. Cindy McCain is not the mannequin in a suit like a first thought. McCain- also very deep and insightful. The experience he had in that prison in Veitnam alone should earn him some reverance and respect. Palin- In jeans and a jacket you can tell this is the real her. Very smart and truly feels she needs to make a difference. Was amusing and much more kind and generous to the media than I would have been if they would have attacked my daughter. Tenacious and hard working and very ordinary. Her parents...teaching and coaching. Middle class. Her husband Todd- softspoken..... very proud of his wife and what she has managed to accomplish for the state of Alaska. Comfortable in his supporting role and view their campaign as a great opportunity for them to meet all of America. No regrets. These people are all remarkable. I think the republican ticket made a huge mistake going on that aggressive, criticize campaign stradegy. I was pleased to just see the ordinary...lets have a conversation ....interview that really has a better chance at revealing the real them.
