I didn't watch the game he pitched since I was at the Stanford at Cal scrimmage. Still - seems pretty senseless that anyone would die just because some idiot ran a red light. Nick Adenhart, Angels pitcher, killed in Fullerton crash www.latimes.com/news/la-me-nick-adenhart-killed10-2009apr10,0,5362563.story I modified the title since "hit and run" is also baseball term and I didn't want to give the impression that this happened during the game.

Must have really been going fast to have done that much damage. They said he was going 50-60 mph. Only 22 years of age.

Adenhart was only a passenger. The impact rammed the car he was in right into a pole. Never thought I'd see Adenhart's agent Scott Boras cry either. He claimed to have contacted Adenhart's father to tell him the unfortunate news.

This kind of crap happens all too often. I'm not talking about baseball players being killed, but rather the speed demons taking liberties in today's streets. Just the other night, I was walking my dogs in my neighborhood and this blue sports car zoomed past at nearly 60 MPH in a 25 MPH residential zone. Wow! Incredible display of recklessness! Fortunately, nothing happened to anyone because he was the only driver on that street.

The thing that got to me was that he was an only child and his father, despite his heartbreak felt that it was important enough to thank the Angel's management and players for having help raise his son. Adenhart spent 4 years with the Angel's organization from 18-22 years old.
I also couldn't imagine Boras crying.

I also couldn't imagine Boras crying. He's made so many team owners and general managers cry with his contract negotiations. I do sense it was genuine though. I doubt he's ever had to do this before. sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4055343

Nick Adenhart was 22. The other two killed were Courtney Stewart, 20, and Henry Pearson, age 25. The man charged with the three murders and other crimes was also 22.

What a tragedy.
A kid who was our next door neighbor for 15 years was a Phoenix Police officer. He was killed (on duty) last October by a drunk driver who also happened to be in the country illegally. Left behind a wife and 3 month old baby. That was some funeral - Amazing Grace on the bagpipes, riderless horse, 21 gun salute, must have been 500 police/fire/sheriff officers from all over the state in attendance. The guy has pled guilty to manslaughter and the family has agreed to the plea to avoid going through a trial.
DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!!!!!
