Minnesota terror suspect seeks release Associated Press
Updated: 05/05/2009 02:50:01 PM CDT
MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis man held on terror charges for more than five years is asking to be released as he awaits trial.
Mohammed Warsame, a Canadian citizen of Somali descent, is charged with lying to the FBI and providing material support to al-Qaeda. Prosecutors accused him of attending terrorist training camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
In federal court in Minneapolis today, Warsame's attorney argued that his client has no criminal history and has been a model prisoner.
After Judge John Tunheim said he would take the case under advisement, Warsame stood up and said, "This is unfair, sir. I've been here a long time."
Tunheim said he understood and would try to reach a decision soon.
This is what is going to happen.
1. Terrorist will recruit anybody without a record...no priors ...gee sheep will let you go ...
2. He will get an apology from from our Muslim community stating it was just racial profiling...BLAME BUSH.
3. He will get payments from a liberal judge ..."saying it is the least we can do"
4. Every terrorist in the middle east will want to come to Minnesota.."'we are sheep."
5. terrorist will marvel at our stupidity... ONLY IN AMERICA ..
6. the guy will repay our kindness by committing a terrorist act...
But he was held for 5 years and that is a long time...
I say take him back to Canada via the boundary wilderness. in the dead of winter. -60.. with no jacket.
let the real wolves have him.
baaa?

I'm just replying to this thread to put it up to 2nd in the thread list right under the Miss Cali thread, so that the top two threads read, however briefly, "Hmm Ms California's boobies were paid for. Why not just shoot them?"
This pleases me.

Amend #5 to "Also in Canada" where just this week an alleged terrorist was acquitted in the bombing of a plane destined for India, which crashed and killed 300+ people. He says his 12 lawyer defense team's bill was in the millions of dollars and he lost his business and credibility so he's now suing the Canadian government for millions in an attempt to rebuild his life.

Gopher,
On a positive note I found a terrorist we can safely waterboard and not "feel" too bad about it. This happened a few days ago. He was walking into a building and he was wearing a vest full of explosives. He was about to torch off the vest and meet Allah, but some Iraqi policemen wrestled him to the ground and prevented the BIG BANG. Anyway, logically, he was going to kill himself, so what's a little waterboarding after that. It's a lot better than death in my opinion.

Wait ... he was acquitted, right? So what's your point? What if I accuse you of a terrorist act, and you spend years of your life defending yourself. Wouldn't you want some compensation if it turns out you are found not guilty?

It is guilty until proven... err, just guilty.

innocent..?
IN MINNESOTA..that be USA...
a Canadian CITIZEN..of Somali decent ?
Gee..OH Canada...we stand on guard for thee..sort of.
He wasn't arrested for being MUSLIM... He wasn't arrested for being Canadian... He wasn't arrested for being a boy scout ..but for lying to the FBI .
I would bet that had something to do with overseas trips to terrorist training camps.
But he could have been selling hockey posters? promoting Canadian Timber? Minnesota Viking football?
You guys presume the great conspiracy is the TRUTH. BUSH went after any body...for anything.. illegally of course.
Again he is a traitor to his country. A terrorist to the world...
and a client to be mined for lawyers...and the political progressives.
I wouldn't waste a bullet ..our wolves need food too.

I still find Bill's posts to be the best arguments against his *own* positions. Uncanny.

More of "the rest of the story" is that he assured the gov't he was a millionaire but his assets were unavailable to access so the gov't agreed to pay for his costs=they would be repaid at the end of the trial. Turns out he wasn't rich after all. Perhaps his credibility should have been questioned then. A 12 person defense team-at the expense of the gov't?? Besides, if you accuse me of being a terrorist I'll shoot you so someone can simply try me for murder. I'll get off because I'm rich.

I don't know what the law says in Canada, but in the US the government must provide for your legal defense if you request it. And they must provide as much money as they have spent on the prosecution. So in very high-profile cases where the prosecution has spent a lot of money, that means the legal defense money for the plantiff is also very high.

Well, in the US the government will pay for the defense only if the defendant is deemed to be actually indigent (not just if he/she requests it) and I'm pretty sure sure they won't fall for the "just represent me now and I will gladly promise to pay you on the Tuesday afterwards with my millions" schtick. If you have moolah or assets, you need to get your own attorney.
It also very rarely works out that the same amount of money is spent on both sides when the government is footing the bill. Just ask all the minority death row inmates in the South.
