What coach would want to come and work for this 'person' .....unless they are connected to her already? This absolutely stinks - there is nothing good to say about this administrator if she said what Volleyspectator mentioned.

AD is a guy, right? So this must all be revolving around the SWA?

I stand corrected -- not AD (male) but SWA (female). I assumed you meant the AAD-SWA since you used the words 'her' and 'she' in your first post concerning YSU. It was pretty clear to me who you were referring to. Using AD was minor in this case since the AD is male and SWA is female. Not a big deal (to me ). ;D

I will admit that I do not know much about the YSU program or the administration behind it, but this whole situation sounds a little odd... based on all that has been said, there must be more to it.
Maybe its just me being a young coach (and still in it for the players, not looking at it like a business), but I feel bad for the girls in the program and the incoming recruits.

The recruits & any player can decide to go someplace else if they desire to.

I love how Youngstown waited until after recruits signed to make this move. Well, their other choice would have been to get rid of the staff before the season was over? They would have had to do that in order to remove the coach before the NLI's were signed.

YSU team met with AD yesterday. AD proceeded to tell them they were the worst team in YSU history, an embarassment to the university with their cheering and dancing on the sidelines to celebrate, and they were bringing in a new coach who would evalutate each one of them and they would know by spring if they were cut from the team. The team was stunned by the lack of professionalism and condescending attitude of the AD besides being shocked and hurt. This is the best team in YSU history -- with 2 players setting career and season records and both being honored in the league for weekly achievements. A great group of girls who have worked their tails off to take the program to a new level. Now a group who want to put volleyball behind them and move on with their lives. They have no confidence whatsoever in the University with their lack of support and faith in them. BTW - in the past 3 years I could count on one hand the times that particular AD showed up at away games. Her presence at home games were usually found lurking in a corner. She is non responsive to parents and athletes and obviously doesn't have a clue as to what cheering and celebrating does for the game of volleyball. So, you are a parent of one of the current players?

The recruits & any player can decide to go someplace else if they desire to. Yes they can... but, it still seems like these young ladies would now have to transfer from what they know and are comfortable with for a reason that, on the surface, seems to not make much sense. Thats all I was saying. I just feel bad for them.

Has anyone heard anymore about University of Missouri Kansas City Head coaching job coming available. Coach was suspended for a bit during season?

Northwest College job was posted on school website and now AVCA website. All of this is interesting since their team is at the national tournament right now.

I expect UMKC to officially post for a HC when the season is over. The ironic part is they made conference tournament (only top 4 go) despite all the chaos and difficulties. Current coach is getting a raw deal from administration. I will be looking for a HC job this off-season, and I applied at UMKC 3 or 4 years ago when they hired the current coach, but I will not touch this job now.

Fired Melissa Chaplin women's volleyball coach
LAURINBURG, N.C.—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College Athletics Department announced Thursday afternoon that the College is making a change in the leadership of the volleyball program and Melissa Chaplin will no longer serve as head coach, effective immediately.
Director of Athletics Glenn Batten has confirmed the decision by the administration to remove Coach Chaplin from the volleyball program and that St. Andrews is excited to start a search for a new volleyball head coach.
After careful examination and deliberation by the administration, the decision has been made that a change in the leadership of the volleyball program is in the best interests of the College and all those connected with the program, at this time.
Chaplin coached the Lady Knights volleyball program for one season, accumulating a 12-20 overall and 7-11 Conference Carolinas record in 2009. St. Andrews earned the eighth and final seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament and was eliminated in the first round under the direction of Chaplin.
A comprehensive, national search for Chaplin’s successor will begin immediately as St. Andrews looks to return the volleyball program to its recent success that includes a trip to the 2004 NCAA Division II Volleyball National Tournament.

This is the best team in YSU history -- with 2 players setting career and season records and both being honored in the league for weekly achievements. A great group of girls who have worked their tails off to take the program to a new level. Their record is 7-21, is it not? That is worse than their 2008 record. Two good players does not make the team successful. I'm not saying the way it was handled was correct - as I have no idea - but you really discount your argument to the point where I don't believe any of what you have stated, simply because you're trying to cover up even the simple fact that their record this season is worse than their record was last season. They haven't won a match since early October, correct?

YSU won a match on 10/23.
But they lost 10 of their last 11. And yes, they did just miss making the post season tournament. But then again, they just missed finishing last in the league.
Realistically they were pretty far from the top 4 teams of the league.
