Al Givens from Weber State? Really? I am having a tough time buying this one.I must be missing this clue because SC is rarely wrong.

Besides a lot of hires don't always make sense to the masses. At least the unusual ones can spark a lively conversation around the VT water cooler.

His accomplishments don't really shock and awe me. I thought UOP could attract someone a bit bigger.

Why not just keep Dave at UOP? Why hire someone who has proved over time not to be successful? Wow, this is a program that has won a National Championship!

I'm trying to keep the UOP talk respectful but...what?! A guy from Weber State with a losing record is better than Dave Johnson?!

No, no, no - NOT Weber State!! My NorCal source talks like they've got a mouthful of marbles and is a horrible speller (which, I should've known) - it's GIBBONS!! This is what I get for posting while away from my computer (where I could've checked their spelling because they got the school right)! UGH, I'm seriously going to have to shoot this person (or at least pay for a good orthodontist)!!

UOP has hired. Listen up, 'cause this is the only clue I'm Gibbons ya all! I'm not sure when the clue was changed to Givens... I think the clue that SC has Gibbons us is supposed to take us in a different direction... Maybe somewhere around the Santa Barbara area??? Just a shot in the dark though

I think I was clearing it up and leading everyone down the right path... just a second too late I guess

I don't think Gibbons would leave UCSB. He is a vital part of getting UCSB back on track and everyone but one player will be back next season. That is a big loss to UCSB if it is true.

Well that makes me feel better. I thought Givens was going to be a stretch for that job, especially considering there was talk earlier on this thread about him being let go from Weber.

Seems like the main focus here is on D1 jobs, which I can understand. Is there a better thread to look at D3 job news?
SC- you tend to have the inside scoop on a lot going on. What is your take on D3 vacancies?

Instead, I leave that to vbnerd, karellen and others who seem to have their fingers on the pulse of DIII. As Clint Eastwood used to say, "A man's got to know his limitations!"

DIII should get moving later in the year. They are a little easier to maintain and the amount of money saved by keeping the position open is more significant to a DIII school. The schools that move early are generally well to do, or the programs have significant challenges in front of them...like Birmingham Southern last year, with only 3-4 returning players, so they had to hire in January. Also, a lot of the full time DIII's are contracted through the end of the school year, meaning a coach could collect a paycheck without doing to much work, so if you are going to retire, you wait until its golfing weather.... so give it until Easter and things will start to pick up for DIII's.
