Today is my bday, and I spent it enjoying the beach and the qualifiers. Some observations...
I was surprised by how well D Copenhagen (USC) moved in the sand. She played well in the match I watched. Surprised by the loose ball control and iffy setting of Thurlby (Hawaii) in the match I watched. Maybe it was just that match? De Turk (Northeastern) has potential - too hestitant in the match I watched, and pulled off the net way too much. But definite potential there. Didn't know Donahue (ASU) was playing beach. Athletic, but a lot to learn.

Also had lunch and a margarita at Fred's. Always love Mexican food!

I also watched the Qualifier today in HB and was really impressed with the skill levels of all the teams I saw in the second round. The match I saw Thurlby played very well- their problem was the other team had a big player that they could not contain, she frequently attacked on 2 and had several blocks.

It's nice to see a lot of younger players making their way to the beach. On both the Women's and Men's side.

Misty & Nicole let a lot of easy shots fall. I was kind of surprised. They didn't cover Kessy/Ross's cut shots well at all.

After watching her play in Santa Barbara, I truly believe she isn't healthy yet. Achilles injuries are really tough to recover from. She just isn't back defensively yet. But 2nd is pretty darned good considering.
