The AVP Tour resumes this weekend at Belmar, New Jersey. Some of the sport’s top players will compete at Belmar, including the world’s top-ranked team of Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers and last weekend’s AVP winners Matt Fuerbringer and Nick Lucena. You can watch the men’s final live on Sunday, June 27 at 4pm ET on Universal Sports and www.universalsports.com.

The AVP site already has good coverage of the Belmar event, but I might as well chime in with a few insights on the results so far.
On the women's side, Summer Ross-Yanchulova once again qualified and had to play May-Branagh again in the first round, but this time presented no significant challenge and lost both their main draw matches in 2.
The only semi-significant upset on the women's side so far is that the first qualifier team of Batt/Sweat has managed to win 2 main draw matches (against seeds 21 & 22) and is into the 3rd round of the loser's bracket to play 20th seeds Olsovsky/Van Fleet. Otherwise, the draw is pretty much going to form so far.
On the men's side, Brook Billings qualified again in a bit of an upset, defeating the #1 qualifier seeds, but his team lost both main draw matches in 2.
In the main draw, there have been several very big upsets in the winner's bracket: Dipierrio/Grotowski continue their fine play from last week with the upset of Gibb/Rosenthal in the second round of the winner's bracket. In the same round, Morrison/Zimet have pulled off the upset of last week's tour winners Fuerbringer/Lucena.
More matches still to come today.

Kessy/Ross had to work through the loser's bracket. They lost their first match of the day to Scott/Youngs, but came back to beat May-Treanor/Branagh in 3 in the semis and got revenge on Scott-Youngs in the finals.
The announcers said that Scott/Youngs served them off the court in the first match. In the finals, it wasn't really that close.
On the men's side, Rogers/Dalhausser won again, but they barely squeaked by in the semifinals, beating Patterson/Wong 16-14 in the 3rd set. They didn't really have too much trouble with Scott/Hyden in the finals. Scott/Hyden played well, but it was a bit like playing uphill. They had to play great to win points and they could only maintain that for so long.
One rally in particular was pretty cool. Dalhausser rocketed a serve down the right sideline. Scott made a great diving pass, Hyden put the ball up running at a full sprint and Scott put the ball away with a great lefty cut shot (he's right handed). That was just to get a side-out.

It was great to watch the AVP in person once again after beaing away for many years. Belmar is a very nice venue and there were people from all over the Tri state. Good weather, good vibes and good crowd.

Did you see any of the Rogers/Dalhausser vs Patterson/Wong semifinal? The announcers were very complimentary towards the Patterson/Wong partnership.

If you ever read Todd Roger's blog, he stated that in HB he thought Wong and Casey were starting to gel. Saying that Casey's adjustment to full time defence was maturing and Kevin playing some great vball. www.toddjrogers.com/

Thanks! I wasn't aware of Todd's web site. I've been following his career since I first saw him play with his original lefty partner (name escaping me). I tend to identify with his cerebral approach to the game which you could see even that first tournament.
