congrats to both teams making the final. found this quote on the FIVB right up on Nick and Matt:
Fuerbringer and Lucena, who were playing in their first SWATCH FIVB World Tour final together, split $29,500 for second place. The silver medal was Lucena’s first international podium placement while Fuerbringer had competed in two previous SWATCH FIVB World Tour “final fours” with Casey Jennings at stops in Croatia (2008 Zagreb bronze) and Poland (2009 Myslowice silver).
Sunday’s final was initially set up when Fuerbringer and Lucena rallied from a 13-10 deficit in the third and deciding set against Marcio Araujo and Ricardo to score a 21-19, 18-21 and 15-13 victory in 68 minutes. While Marcio Araujo and Fabio split $18,400 for fourth-place, Alison and Emanuel shared $23,000 for the bronze medal finish.

Lucena got a red card toward the end of the first set for arguing a call with language that the British R1 found a little too colorful given the microphones around the court. Later in thematch, after another disputed no call on a touch, F & L filed a protest asking to have the R1 replaced. The protest was quickly denied.

It was a great weekend of Volleyball at the FIVB tournament from Klagenfurt, Austria. The teams of Dalhausser/Rogers and Lucena/Fuerbringer played a great gold medal match which featured some of the best rallies I’ve seen this season. If you missed it, be sure to check out the highlights here: www.universalsports.com/beach-volleyball/video/index.html!
