Rob Machan was the assistant coach at USC when they won the title in 2002 and 2003. Syracuse AD Darryl Gross was an assistant AD at USC at the time. Machan has built a regional power program a few hours down the road with much fewer resources than Syracuse could make available to him.
Who was Syracuse's first opponent this season? Rob Machan's Sacred Heart team.
Could Machan make a dent in the ACC?

Seems like a strange move for a team that is well above .500 on the season. Any word why the change was made?

Could Machan make a dent in the ACC? I know conference memberships are changing at an alarming rate as of late, but did I miss an announcement about Syracuse joining the ACC? If not, then did you mean to say Big East noreaster?

Thanks sisyphus! Although I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the article as to when they'd officially join the conference. Anyone know when that'll happen? Next year? Later?

"The exact date for the move remains uncertain, as Big East bylaws require schools to pay a $5 million exit fee and give 27 months notice before leaving. ACC commissioner John Swofford said the league "fully respects" the bylaws of the Big East, but Pitt chancellor Mark Nordenberg said the Big East provides options for withdrawal." from espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6988468/acc-accepts-pittsburgh-panthers-syracuse-orange-14-team-league
