Can we kill this thread and make the Trees start over? What have they done to deserve north of 350,000 views? Most successful college program in the history of the sport. That's about it. Not a bad school either, AND they don't offer verbals before spring of junior year.

This thread has too many devoted fans to die off easily. We will delve and resuscitate with the slightest excuse!

I would expect nothing less. A very rich tradition that will live on forever.

And back to the issue at hand, who will be our 2nd recruit?

I think at this point, Wiltjer is the only uncommitted recruit... though I don't know what type of collegiate prospect she'll be. She's been injured for the past two years. It might just be Hodson. Hopefully 2016 will be a year with more recruits to surround Hodson.

Better to keep your powder dry unless there is someone you really think can contribute. 2016 will need to be a blockbuster ... hopefully at least two top ten recruits and few others in the top twenty or thirty.

I've saved my comments about Sarah Benjamin in hopes that she would impress me by now and, unfortunately, after watching her play for 2 years, I'm not impressed at all by her. Hopefully she improves a lot when she gets to Stanford, but I really don't see her as Stanford's next libero. Unless they can't find someone better, which I doubt.

What, you think because Penn State wins 5 championships in 7 years that they're the most successful in the history of the sport? The NCAA championship has been around since 1981, not 2007.

Stanford really hasn't done all that great of a job with the libero position, and if they hadn't gotten Ailes you could say it was really, really bad. Odd because the forced late offering wouldn't necessarily be as damaging at the libero spot than at others (b/c they get recruited later w/fewer schollies) and Stanford is the one school where I could see good DS's lining up to walk on just because they wanted to go to Stanford and could use the athletics admissions nudge.

I think Benjamin's serve receive is solid. Her digging of hard driven balls needs to improve. Unless there is an unbelievable walkon coming in 2015, Benjamin will be Stanford's libero in 2015.

PSU has 6 NC's, same as Stanford. And a boatload of FF's and elite eights, just like Stanford. And the game is much different now than when Big Daddy Don Shaw was ruling the roost. The point is certainly debatable.

USA Volleyball announced the 18-member Junior National training roster which will be cut to 12 players for the NORCECA Women's U-20 Continental Championship scheduled for July 6-14 in Guatemala. Players of possible interest to Stanford fans are Hayley Hodson (2015), Audriana Fizmorris (2016), and Khalia Lanier (2016).
I believe Hodson is currently training with the Senior NT. Junior Nationals for club team from June 28 to July 1. Junior NT for the U-20 Continental Championships from July 6-14.

The point is certainly debatable. Geddy nailed it ... Stanford is still recruiting great all-around players and their team is still fun to watch because a middle blocker can still set a ball and play some defense, but the game has moved on from the 90's. It is all about specialization and substitutions. No one (Russ Rose) and no team (PSU) has done a better job of exploiting the rule changes. Without those rule changes Stanford could have a few more championships under their belt, and PSU probably has fewer. Just look at what happened in 2013.
