For what it's worth, on the WJNT Tumblr, Hodson and Fitzmorris both list "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Dumas as their favorite book. She also wants to be a Biomechanical Engineer, a Doctor, or Physical Therapist. Biomechanical Engineering is a really specific major isn't it? Not sure where her head is at, but I imagine she'll give Stanford a really long look if she wants to pursue Biomechanical Engineering or Medicine. I like her lofty goals in terms of academics. wjnt.tumblr.com/post/89118972701/getting-to-know-audriana-fitzmorris

Hodson is playing Opposite for the Junior National Team in Guatemala this weekend. I saw most of the mexico match; not really sure which one was her some of the time, particularly when USA was on the opposite side of the net from this end zone camera.
Hodson received serve at least 2/3 of the time, periodically stepping out to let OH and libero return serve, but also periodically being put back into serve return as others had issues. I would say she hit smarter rather than harder, but did not get really good sets. Those go to the MB, who dominate. The point is she can play OPP and still return serve, if needed. It did look good that USA went to Hodson for the last few points of the closest set, the second, that ended 25-21, but awas closer until the end.

She can play opposite while Howard and Burgess take the outside hitter positions. Hodson would then transition over to the left side starting her sophomore year.

Habemus harena!
No sign of actual courts, and the area is still a construction zone. But there is some sand. They haven't finished laying the pavers for the approach to the venue either. So not sure they will be able to use it for the first round of sand camps. Maybe if they pay people to work on Saturday.
The other thing I noticed is that there isn't any parking right nearby. AFAICT, it is a third- to a half-mile walk from the nearest parking lot to the site. (Maybe a little closer if you can get a good spot on El Camino). The rec courts were a lot more convenient on that count.

During club season Hodson often appeared to focus on direction more than speed in hitting. Also IMO she needs some down time to rest her shoulder and knees. I agree with the comment Hodson would help her cause freshman year if she can play right side. As good as Hodson may be, she is not going to push Burgess or Howard out of the starting lineup their senior season.
Brown can definitely hit the ball harder than Hodson. Needless to say, hitting the ball hard is only a portion of the equation to being an effective hitter.
If construction is still going on the sand courts I doubt they would have the camp on those courts. If there is a way to get hurt on construction obstacles kids will find it. Too much of a liability issue.

Is Stone ACTUALLY 6'3"? She looks a lot smaller in her highlight videos. The highlight videos from high school show Ronika Stone playing with 2 other 6'3" middles, a 6'2" OH, and two 5'11" setters. So everyone looks close to her height. Yes, she is definitely 6'2 1/2" - 6'3". Wonderful player, wonderful girl. But not every great volleyball player is a fit for Stanford, and this one is "not in the cards". Move along, move along...

Junior Nationals in Minnesota. Two teams in the finals come from less than 20 miles apart in San Diego. In the end Abercrombie and company of Coast were too much for Brown's Wave team. I watched bits and pieces of the semi-finals and finals online. It is annoying work gets in the way of watching volleyball. I would give Brown mixed reviews for today. She played well in the semi-finals and was off her game in the finals although she had a couple big hits in the finals from the back row. It will be interesting to see how Brown does against Pac-12 blocking this season. Their facilities are only 3 miles apart, fwiw. Doesnt change your point, but may provide color on why both teams seemed to play tight at times in the final...add local bragging rights which is big.

Saw on the TStreet website that Catherine Raquel, a 5'10 setter is committed to Stanford. Is she a walk-on? Had no idea about her until just now.

It is possible she was admitted to Stanford on her own merits and has no plans to play on the team. Last year there was a player from the San Diego area who was admitted but had no plans to play for Stanford. Her club listed her college as Stanford but didn't indicate she was not playing college volleyball.

She could also be a sand-only player. She has played a few CBVA events, but is unranked: so probably not.

Prepvolleyball.com announced the winners of the High School National Player of the Year awards. This award puts a premium on how much a player helped her high school team. The sophomore NPOY is 6'4" Khalia Lanier (daughter of Bob Lanier) out of Arizona's Xavier College Prep High School. The article says she has a 4.0 GPA. Any chance Dunning and staff are looking at her? Here is the article on her club's web site. JT gave me permission to post the link. www.arizonastormvbc.com/intro.htmLanier just committed to USC, over Texas and Stanford unfortunately. She is going to be a phenomenal OH, possibly the #1 recruit in 2016. Guess we'll just have to hope for the best with Fitzmorris and maybe Lexi Sun, if we want to keep up with USC, PSU, etc. Anyone know of other potential targets (2015/2016/2017) on Stanford's radar?

Sad for Stanford good for her, but "over" Stanford? Doubt that at this point so something else. Nevertheless I was hopeful on Lanier.

She's a sophomore and her grades at 4.0 doesn't seem like it would totally disqualify her from keeping Stanford in the running. Ultimately, it was between Texas and USC. It appears she chose USC based on fit and a gut feeling.
