Another SCVA tournament. I was impressed with Halland McKenna. When I was watching she had solid passing, some nice digs, good coverage of tips and blocks. McKenna has made big strides in understanding the libero position. She will give Benjamin a challenge for a role on the starting team. Today was the best I have seen Lexi Sun play. When I was watching her hitting was a level above everyone else. You had to block her because there was no way to dig out her hits. Sun's timing of her approach and jump consistently got the most out of less than ideal sets. It is hard to believe she is a sophomore. Sun is going to be really good by the time she gets to college. I was talking to a relative of Alyse Ford. I didn't realize Ford was definitely interested in Stanford in the early phases of her recruitment by colleges. Decided she didn't want to wait for a decision from admissions. It makes me wonder how many elite players Stanford has lost out on because they didn't want to wait. I'm sure Dunning is not losing any sleep over Ford.

Yeah, Stanford's recruiting is really suffering. It's relative ... good enough to win and/or compete for the Pac-12 title -- absolutely. Good enough to win the NCAA championship -- debatable. Aiyse Ford IMO is not a big loss. Lexi Sun, OTOH, who apparently was anxious to commit, well that's another story.

MEQ, what I saw Invasion's combo of Gray/Fitzmorris dominated going undefeated and taking the title. Fitzmorris' Invasion club team played in a USAV qualifier tournament this weekend in Kansas City. They again went undefeated beating some good teams. They beat Colorado Juniors, Skyline from Texas, and Northern Lights from Minnesota. You would think Gray is getting some decent sets to her hitters. Vanjak played with Bugg as the #2 team in a sand tournament this weekend. Based on the results they did well so Vanjak must have some passing skills.

Her contact point is so high. I don't think anyone else in that gym contacted the ball as high as she did. Her passing isn't great, but it's still good. She really impressed me yesterday.

Ford is an amazing athlete, but is/was she anywhere near Stanford academically? Dont know if it was ever an option. She jumps higher than anyone in the gym and swings as hard as anyone. Of concern for Trojan fans should be her ability to terminate against a Pac12 block. She struggled mightily against Tstreet in her first match Saturday. Tstreet does have significant size on the rightside with Plummer, and this is what she'll see a lot of in college, if she ever gets on the court with the talent Mick has. BTW, if Plummer does apply and is admitted, and decides on Stanford, she looks like the answer on the rightside.

Reily Bucheler only touched 9'7 as a senior, and was a hard hitting high school player. But she seemed to make a nice adjustment at UCLA her freshman year getting accustomed to hitting around the Pac 12 block, ending with a respectable average at OH. I expect Ford to do the same. She hits at a higher point than Buechler, and Sara Shaw. She also seems to have improved passing and defensively. I expect she will compete for a starting position at USC given what their needs will be. She adds a Hagglund+ athelticism that they lacked last year.

Ford doesn't bring anything to the court that Gillis or Ruddins don't. And although she's very athletic, she's been known to have trouble against bigger blocks. Not a particularly strong backrow player either. Time will tell, I guess.

I had heard that Stanford has a home tournament on 8/28-8/29. Does any Stanford fan know what teams will be participating in this tournament? I have to be up in the Bay Area for work the first part of Sept. and wanted to see if it was worth coming in if some good teams will be playing.

Usually that first tournament is hit or miss regarding quality of teams. I'm guessing there will be at least one top 25 team. Bobbk might have an idea who is coming.

Is the Pac-12/Big-10 pre-conference tournament still on for Stanford? If it is, who from the B1G is playing besides Penn State?
My guess is any announcement about the 2016 recruiting class is still weeks away.
