I heard that Stanford has six beach-only recruits for 2018-19. Charlie Ekstrom and Jordan McKinney have been mentioned before. I don't remember if Victoria Ashkinos (Pasadena) or Madeline Dailey Danville) have been mentioned here; they are listed on RichKern.com. I don't know who the other two are. Stanford is starting to get better beach-only recruits but they still haven't gotten a top ten recruit who can compete against other school's #1 teams. Looking at the current roster I expect Plummer to play with Formico. I have seen Formico play on the beach. Good defense, good court positioning, but not much heat on her hits. Formico will probably get the vast majority of serves.
At the moment I am more enthusiastic about following the progress of Klineman/Ross than the Stanford beach team.
I'm right there with you. I'm getting more excited about the women's beach volleyball these days, both the college game and the pros. But this enthusiasm doesn't quite transfer to Stanford yet. Like you, I'm really high on Klineman/Ross. Also following Hughes/Klaes. And it's exciting to follow schools like USC, UCLA, Pepperdine. I hope Stanford can be in that group in a few years.

Yes, it's clear they are weaning the beach team off the indoor players, but they haven't got much in the way of tall players who can dominate at the net coming in. I think Charlie Ekstrom may be a significant addition next year, but she, too, is only 5'9".

Wish we could find some footage from this years club team. I'd like to see her progression over the last year and a half.

That’s the video I was referring to. However, last time I directly linked a video about potential recruit Kipp, the original poster (who was a player from the opposing team) took it down.

Which player to look for? Near or far side and what jersey number? Caity Baird. Gray jersey can’t discern the number but it’s pretty easy to tell which OH she is....

A coach would just love to work with Baird. She has good basic skills, a solid frame, and hits pretty heavy. She makes herself available all the time and has fair variety in her shots. Her ready position on defense needs work, and I didn't get to see much of her passing, but she should be very, very good next year. Hope she comes to The Farm or at least goes somewhere coaches actually teach something.

We return a lot of good pieces for 2018. However, I think a problem that could arise is that we don’t have Lutz as a right side presence. Fidelak/Fitz (whoever plays there) are unproven at this point but this could put a lot of pressure on Plummer and McClure to carry the load (especially out of system). Lutz’s progression was such a treat to watch and I think with possibly 2 freshman in the lineup and perhaps Fitz moving right, hopefully Fidelak or Fitz can step up the load to help Plummer out. I like how Campbell can hit the slide and the front one and is also a good blocker. I know Alade made huge strides, but I feel like she could contribute more. & Fitz is much better off of two feet IMO.

Any chance of moving Plummer back to opp? I don’t recall what the OH situation is.

Any chance of moving Plummer back to opp? I don’t recall what the OH situation is. The outsides are McClure and Keefe. It would be in Stanford’s best interest to keep Plummer at the OH1 spot because we need that outlet hitter...

They just won't have Lutz, but probably more flexibility and speed. Yes, everybody could contribute more, but I don't know what you expect from Alade. She is unlikely to discover a slide, and her hitting and blocking were sound. Also everybody is better off two feet. I don't intend these remarks to be snarky; I just don't understand what you think would make a difference. I would like to see Plummer improve as a left-side blocker, McClure become that annoying sort of shorter hitter who makes other teams work harder, and Fitzmorris hit effectively in front of the setter. That's my laundry list.

Stanford tried pushing a lot of tempo to the pin this year especially on the slide, it looked almost like a Red sometimes. IMO Problem is Fitz needs a higher slide set (same height Inky was getting them last year) so she can use her 6’6 frame. But, She hits with a lot of range so hopefully with more weight training and hitting reps she can take advantage of the speed. I haven’t seen much of Fidelak and Campbell but I would like to see Fitz stay in the middle as she has a great future there. As an Oppo I’m not sure if she packs enough heat to consistently put the ball away. We’ll see.....I’m excited to see the team this fall!

That's my laundry list. Technically I did say we won’t have Lutz as a right side presence. I didn’t say we wouldn’t have a right side presence. IMO, Alade could put some more heat on the ball. And not everyone is better off two feet, IMO Washington and Rettke are better with slide approaches. For Stanford, I just feel like out of necessity Fitz took more swings as a slide hitter (back injuries didn’t help). With Campbell coming in, I could see Fitz playing right side. Now this is all a moot point if Fidelak proves to be a good one. I think Fidelak has potential as she is a solid 6-rotation player and I feel like with Jenna setting she could be a good contributor. But then again that leaves Fitz the responsibility to take more slide swings which frankly she’s better in front of the setter. Plummer is already a good left side blocker.... well blocker in general.... but I’m not sure how improving Plummer’s left side blocking will help much
