Fidelak will play a lot like McClure -- good passer, solid D, good athleticism, hits with pretty good power, etc. The issue for her is size at around 6'2" and whether can she block stud LS hitters. In another thread someone claimed that left-handers were not good blockers. Whether true or not statistically, we need to see what Fidelak can do. Until then, moving Fitz to the right seems to be the most logical move for several reasons including blocking skills and hitting angle into weaker defenders.
Sure, I'd love to see Plummer on the right because she is probably the best RS in the college game. but as another poster pointed out, having a LS "out" hitter is so important that Stanford/Hambly will need to keep her at OH1. If Stanford wants to try Fitz on the left, then Fitz will have to use her size and length to go line as much as possible because college L's will eat up her cross court hits due to lack of velocity.

She’d definitely be more of a project... but ALL the physical attributes are there. Shes a lot like Lutz big and physical with a cannon arm swing. What was surprising to me was Coast sets her more of a “Beach” or “red” instead of a traditional 5 ball.....and she was CRUSHING them. In the matches I watched, she was also blocking very well. Some things she could work on is terminating out of system but that comes with more reps and experience.

Yep, Plummer should be on at OPP, but it ain't going to happen...unless, as you suggest, Fitz could play left. You're right that her cross-court is not frisky enough. Blockers will take line and dare her to hit to the right. Also, I'll have to see if Fitz can serve as a bailout hitter as LOH's have to be. Nah, if Campbell is as good as advertised, move Fitz to the right.

A red or beach is a quicker Tempo set to the right pin. For the most part on the men’s side we call it a “beach” and on the women’s side they call it a “red” I’m from SoCal tho, so I don’t know what they call it everywhere else. Although I did spend my freshman year of college in Miami and the Puerto Rican’s I played with called it “Beach” too lol

She may have a longer torso in relation to her legs than your average 6'5" woman or girl? Is she using a shorter beach (sand) approach like Plummer? Thx for info BTW, very interesting.

Yes she definitely has more of a Beach approach....basically just a “step, close.”

Stanford will need some solid 2020s. There is need for a Opp, DS/L, and a MB. Perhaps an OH for depth if there is a good one still available, but with Kipp and Baird charting as OHs, I don’t see an immediate need if they both commit. Kipp can play Opposite however so there is room for an OH. Setter will be covered by Xu. As a 2020, Ms. Crouch should seriously consider Stanford.

My Mom said back in the day they called the pipe set “white” and a D ball “Red” so it really depends on your team or Area lingo. We call it Beach or Red down here in Long Beach/OC.
