Yikes, Danno. Just trying to get the facts. Pax. Well, McGarrett: you might consider what one is asking for, no? If ya want insight into my insights, you can go to the Hawai'i threads: where I have discussed vb strategies w/ another former (D1) player; I have given some faux posers a simple vb quiz re: basic terminologies (which they couldn't answer At All); & I have discussed some of my history: both on + off the court, ya?. Lookit, publius: I have been excoriated by phonies throughout these threads; they are (seemingly) jealous-envious of anyone w/ Real vball experience, for fear of being exposed for what they really, truly are: wannabe "emperors sans clothes". I did not begin with said caution; I surely proceed with it now! P.S.: Book 'em, Steve!

You guys are waaaaay overthinking this. Hambly runs a simple system. He believes in keeping the system simple and focusing on strong execution. Plummer is the best "bad ball" OH I have ever seen in college. She has won 2 NPOY. She is staying. Hentz & McClure are our two best passers by a lot. They aren't moving. Campbell isn't moving. Kipp will either play MB or Fitz will move to MB and she will play OPP. Those are the two options. Your position aligns with what most of us were thinking up until the UA HS All American match on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018. I was sitting three rows deep from the floor behind the West bench and my jaw dropped when I saw Kipp destroying balls from anywhere on the court. I saw the West setter continually going to her because she knew Kipp could put the ball to the floor. I'm talking back row pipes, D balls, left, and right side -- in other words, wherever she was on the court. If she is that great of a hitter then she plays outside and Fitz moves to MB. Hambly would be crazy to mess with his passing lineup for a little more hitting. Particularly when there is a perfectly reasonable solution.

Yeah. If Mcclure struggled hitting I can see him benching mcclure for kipp, but mcclure is a perfectly capable OH, and is a HM AA. Those rarely get benched for freshman.

My take is if it's not broke, don't fix it. Slot Kipp into Alade's role to make for an easier transition her freshman year. She doesn't need to carry a huge load when surrounded by a great senior class. Get her passing reps in practice and continue her development then ask a lot more of her the following year. Thats my prediction for what happens. For ONE YEAR, I can agree with this.

I may be reading too much into this, but Kipp said in either the VolleyballMag article or in her post-game interview that she is excited to contribute in whatever way she can to the team next year. It makes me think that she has had a conversation with Hambly along the lines of: We really like you as an outside, but we got this McClure girl that is pretty good. So unless you show 1st team AA caliber (passing included) in summer camp as an OH, we are going to use your middle skills to win the 2019 Natty. 2020 will begin your reign as the heir to KP.
As a side note, saw Kipp out in Huntington Beach the other day, and man can you tell she has been putting in work in the weight room. Makes me think that we may be underestimating how good a middle she can be since the last time we saw her play the position in any quantity was when she was still maturing.

Pretty sure she knows that McClure kid, given they played on the same club team

I think the most reasonable and probable lineup is the exact same one as last year with Kipp and Vicini battling for alades spot. No reason to shift 3 all American pin hitters. The only thing I would like to see change is formico. I would like her to make strides especially as a defender. Maybe fitz will step up and pass. All this speculation is nice, but let’s be realistic. The lineup is very likely to look identical to the lineup that just won a national championship .

Not sure if this was talked about, but Elena oglivie, supposedly Hentz replacement, was the Hawaii state player of the year as a junior !! She hits outside currently but is expected to make the switch.

I am also speculating cierra Jenkins will go to Stanford. I have heard from club friends that she wanted to but no one has heard anything for a while..... with miner and xu I don’t see why on earth she would go. But I thought about it... if she had decided she can’t go to Stanford she would’ve committed somewhere else certainly. She is one of the most highly regarded 2020 setters. She is a junior so we will know but summer. I don’t think she would ever play even though she is fanstastic. Every top program has a setter in her class, including her home state Florida.

Actually (& this is after someone debated me re: Kipp taking OH2 from McClure: Which IS a 'buzz' circulating) I feel that Kipp is 'in': just depends on where (MB? RS? OH?)

I think kipp might very well play middle her freshman year.

Kipp was/is the top middle for the youth/junior teams. Didn't play last year cause of injuries. But she has always been regarded as the best middle in the country. Yes she is great and potentially more valuable on a pin down the road, but she will be fantastic year one filling for Alade.
