very rapid temperature change will crack a glass - so if you had ice in it and then plunged it in hot water or had it in hot water then plunged it in cold it would crack. Its the reason why you never take a coffee pot (the kind at restaurants) and wash it right away...they are really thin and will shatter in cold water. (from experience)

Do you wash it in the dishwasher? I think some particulates in dishwasher water can etch the glass and little bumps can cause them to crack. Could you have crushed it with your death grip?

Maybe you cracked it the last time you were drinking Scotch. Depending on how much you had, you might not remember cracking it...

I don't wash mine in the dishwasher either, but I've seen that happen to some of my other glasses. I received a nice set from a friend that visited Laphroaig a couple years ago. They visited this holiday and finally got to share their gift back with them. I think I'd be kinda of depressed if one got cracked.
