The Buckeyes have reached the NCAA Final Four three of the last six years. The 6-foot-6 Freier led the Redskins to the Intersectional title, the Section VI Class A crown and a 22-3 record. Ohio State coach Pete Hansen said he scouted Freier while he played at the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships and through the Eden Volleyball Club. "We felt he was a very well-rounded player in all phases of the game," he said. "He's a very good passer and defensively he has good skills. He's gotten stronger from the serving line and he's a good-sized athlete."

Cougars Sign Kauliakamoa www.byucougars.com/Filing.jsp?ID=8560PROVO, Utah (Dec. 20, 2006)--BYU Co-interim head coaches Shawn Patchell and Ryan Millar have announced the signing of one player during the early signing period. Joe Kauliakamoa, from Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas, has signed a letter-of-intent to play for the Cougars in the 2008 season. "We are excited to have Joe join our team," Patchell said. "He will have an immediate impact because of his size and experience." Kauliakamoa played the USA Junior National team, which is coming off a season where it beat powerhouse Cuba in the Youth World Championships. The US team lost in the Finals against Puerto Rico. Kauliakamoa led the team in serving with 13 aces and ranked as the No. 3 setter in the tournament, which also featured teams from Mexico, Guatemala, Canada and host Dominican Republic. Kauliakamoa's parents played in college and became high school and club coaches, first in Hawaii and later in Las Vegas. His older sisters, Tamara and Trina, starred at Palo Verde and now play collegiately at Chaminade. "Joe comes from a great volleyball family and has played several positions so his knowledge of the game goes beyond his years," Patchell said. "Joe has represented USA well and we are happy that he has signed with the BYU program. He will be a great student athlete and represent the university well." Kauliakamoa, who was a setter with the USA Junior Team, played outside hitter last season for his high school team. He led the team to a state championship last season.
