I have begun the 2007 Commitments List at: middlehitter.com/middlehitter/Commitments/2007_College_Commitments.aspMiddle Hitter doesn't put the commitment into the official confirmed list until one of the following occurs: A press release on the college website; A press release in a local paper (a link to the newspaper website is appreciated); The official club website lists the commitment; An email from the college coach (using their .edu email); An email from the club director or head coach (prefer their club email address); I know the person who informs me. Just because someone's name is not on this official list, does not mean that did not get an official commitment letter. It just means I have no way of confirming it.

From Stanford Site:
Men's Volleyball Signs Two Recruits to Class of 2011 Spencer McLachlin and Ian Connolly will join the Cardinal next year.
Nov. 20, 2006
Stanford, Calif. - Stanford Men's Volleyball has signed two highly recruited players to the class of 2011. Spencer McLachlin from Honolulu, HI and Ian Connolly from Newport Beach, CA will join the Cardinal next year, head coach John Kosty announced. " I am very excited about this recruiting class. This class will bring strength at the net with solid ball control and defense to our team."
McLachlin, a 6'6'' outside hitter from Punahou High School comes to the Farm as one of the most sought after recruits in the nation for 2007. "Spencer has the total package, good size, great ball control, great presence at the net and he plays good defense. We will be looking for Spencer to have an immediate impact on our team," says Kosty. He is a three time State Championship MVP, 2006 State Player of the Year, a three time All-American at Junior Nationals, and a starter for the 2004 and 2005 USA Boys Youth National Team and the 2006 USA Men's Junior National Team. Spencer was a key figure on the 2004 Youth National team, which became the first-ever USA boy's squad to earn the gold medal at the NORCECA Championships. In earning the first place finish, his team qualified for the 2005 World Championships. This past summer, he also played an integral part in helping the USA earn the silver medal at the NORCECA Championships at the Men's Junior level, again qualifying the team to next year's World Championships. Away from volleyball, McLachlin is also a top scholastic basketball player earning All-State recognition three times at Punahou. "Spencer is a great combination of size, skill, and winning attitude that all programs seek in recruiting impact volleyball athletes. Add to that his extensive international experience and you've got a real gem of a player," says assistant coach Ken Shibuya. Coach Kosty has high hopes for the Hawaiian native, praising him as being one of the best volleyball players in the country as well as having great "integrity, character, and personality" as well.
Connolly, a 6'3'' outside hitter from Mater Dei High School enters the program with experience both nationally and internationally. Connolly was a key starter for the Balboa Bay 17-1 squad that placed third at the 2006 US Junior National Championships and were the 2006 Boys Classic Champions. He was selected for the USA Development High Performance Camp in 2005. Connolly was also a member of the 2006 USA Boy's Youth National Team that earned the silver medal at the NORCECA Championships in the Dominican Republic and qualified for the 2007 World Championships. At the high school level, he was named All-Serra League in 2004-05 and 2006 All-Tournament team for the Redondo High School Classic. Connolly was also tabbed the MVP for Mater Dei High in 2003. "Ian is a complete player with tremendous skills in all phases of the game. He will give us quality depth at the outside hitter position, which we have not seen since the early 90's," says Kosty. "He is a great competitor and will battle for a starting position from the first day of practice." Adds Coach Shibuya, "Ian helped make the USA Youth team an extremely competitive squad and he will do the same at Stanford. He has all the skills and can be a player that produces a lot of kills for us. He is also a tremendous young man with a drive to succeed."

Its funny how mainlanders always refer to anyone from Hawaii as Hawaiian Natives .... I doubt Spencer is Native Hawaiian, but then again I could be wrong.

uclabruins.cstv.com/sports/m-volley/spec-rel/112006aaa.htmlUCLA Signs Six Men's Volleyball Players The group includes several Junior Olympics medal winners. Nov. 20, 2006 During the November signing period, six high school players signed National Letters of Intent to play men's volleyball at UCLA, the athletic department announced. Phillip Darin, Darwin Edwards, David Freitag, Marko Glisic, John Polales and Alex Scattareggia are expected to attend UCLA next Fall. "We feel that this is an excellent group of prospects," said Head Coach Al Scates. "We have filled our needs for the future with this class, and our tradition will be intact for years to come." The Bruins signed three middle blockers, a pair of outside hitters, one setter and one player who can play all three hitting positions. Phillip Darin (6-7. Edison HS, Huntington Beach, CA) led the Chargers to the 2006 CIF and Sunset League Championships. He is a two-time Junior Olympics bronze medalist, who has played in the Global Challenge tournament for the past two years, winning "Best Scorer" in 2005. Darwin Edwards (6-5. Peninsula HS, Palos Verdes, CA) will be a third generation Bruin. His grandfather, Dick Edwards played football and his father, John was on the fencing team. Darwin earned First-Team All-Bay League and Peninsula's MVP award in 2006. He has the Panthers to a pair of CIF Championships. David Freitag (6-6, Pacific Luthern HS, Torrance, CA) has played middle blocker, opposite and outside hitter while leading the Riptides Volleyball Club to a 16-1 record last season. Attending UCLA will be a family tradition. Freitag's grandfather, father and his father's three siblings all graduated from UCLA. His aunt, Catherine Clarke, remained on campus and is currently a professor in the Biochemistry Department. Marko Glisic (6-9, DuPage CC, Glen Ellyn,IL) is originally from Pancevo, Serbia. Men's Volleyball Signs Four Recruits Local standout Jeff Menzel and three other high school seniors commit to UCSB. ucsbgauchos.cstv.com/sports/m-volley/spec-rel/112006aab.htmlNov. 20, 2006 Santa Barbara, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball program received National Letters of Intent from four high school seniors during the NCAA's early signing period. The announcement was made Monday by head coach Ken Preston. Ben Douglas (Mountain View, Calif.), Jeff Menzel (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Blaine Nielsen (Corona del Mar, Calif.), and Jake Scalise (San Marcos, Calif.) have committed to play for the Gauchos in 2008. Douglas is a 6'6" outside hitter from Mountain View High School. A member of the Spartans' varsity team since he was a freshman, Douglas is in his fourth year with the Bay to Bay Volleyball Club. "Ben has been hurt for a year and is just now becoming healthy," said Preston. "He is a good jumper with solid size and he has tremendous potential. I believe he has a bright future." Menzel is a local standout from San Marcos High School. The 6'5" opposite/outside hitter is a two-time All-CIF honoree and a 2006 All-Channel League First Team member. A versatile athlete, Menzel is also a first team all-league basketball player and a wide receiver on the Royals' football team. "I am exceptionally pleased that Jeff has chosen to stay home and play volleyball for us," said Preston. "Jeff is very gifted athletically. I think he is a natural to fill the void that will be left by Evan Patak's (opposite, 6'7", senior) graduation. Jeff has the potential to dominate at the net and follow some of the great opposites we've had like Evan and Donny Harris (1994-97). His future is unlimited." Menzel's sister, Erica, played for the Gauchos' women's squad from 2000-03 and was a two-time All-Big West First Team pick as well as an all-region selection in 2002. Nielsen is a 6'4" outside hitter out of Corona del Mar High School. A 2006 All-Pacific Coast League selection, Nielsen captained the Sea Kings to a league title and a second place finish in CIF Division II. In 2005, Corona del Mar won the CIF crown. At the club level, Nielsen captained Balboa Bay to Junior Olympics bronze medals in 2005 and 2006. "Blaine comes from several winning programs and is an outstanding player and a perfect fit for UCSB," said Preston. "He is a born leader that will add a lot of energy and production to our team." Scalise is a 6'2" outside hitter from Mission Hills High School of the Division II Valley League. An all-league first team and San Diego County all-section pick, Scalise was also tabbed Mission Hills' MVP. An excellent student, he is a two-time member of the league's all-academic team. "Jake has an unbelievable ability to jump," said Preston. "He needs to work on his passing and arm swing, but with his athleticism, I think he will be a tremendous asset. He is an excellent student and is a great fit for our program." UCSB finished the 2006 season with a 13-16 overall record and placed eighth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with a 9-13 mark. Preston, entering his 29th season leading the Gauchos, lost just two players to graduation as the team returns its top six kill leaders and starting setter. UCSB opens its 2007 campaign with an exhibition match against Thompson Rivers University on January 2 at 7 p.m. in Robertson Gymnasium.

Inafuku to Stanford as well! Came from the horse's mouth! I have a UCLA commit on the Balboa Bay website that did not show up on the UCLA press release either. There could be several explanations. I have no clue as to what the real reason could be and do not intend to speculate...

Walk-ons don't usually sign an NLI. And schools could not officially announce it until after high school (not sure about this)?
For example, Gabi Ailes from Nebraska is not listed on the Stanford Women's Vball 2007 recruit announcement.

I think....you don't sign a letter of intent unless you are getting some money, even books count and you sign a NLI.
If you are a walk on, I think....the college team can't announce you as coming until you are officially accepted as a student.....often in the spring.
