In their 2007 opener, the Bruins defeated Pacific 30-27, 28-30, 30-27, 30-24, setting the stage for a showdown with host UC Santa Barbara. The Bruins defeated the Gauchos, 30-22, 36-34, 30-26 in one hour and 40 minutes to improve their record to 2-0. The Gauchos, who defeated USC 3-0 in the first round, fell to 1-1. Seniors Paul George and Steve Klosterman combined for 36 kills to pace the Bruins against the Gauchos. George, who hit .469 with 18 kills, led the Bruins with 21.5 points and three aces. Klosterman hit .478 and added six digs. As a team UCLA hit .404 with nine total blocks and nine aces. UC Santa Barbara hit .333 with 8.5 total blocks and four aces.
