Maybe a dumb question, but, if the players disbanded their union after the lock-out, then who is negotiating with the owners?

After de-certifying, the union became a trade association. The association can't negotiate directly with the owners, but they can hire outside attorneys to represent their interests, which is what happened. A labor attorney took over negotiations after the de-certification.

There's always a loophole you can jump through.

That's one reason why the players want more time. They have to vote to accept the agreement and to rectify as a union. After that the newly formed union can negotiate with the owners for things like benefits and health insurance. The nflpa, as it stands now, cannot do that.

Maybe its just me, but I get less and less interested in pro sports now. Football especially. Some thing about how the old guys, the guys I used to watch and admire are now quivering blobs of protoplasm because of the hits.

i hear you, phaedrus. i loved john mackey as a kid. in his later years, his devoted wife had to keep an eye on him in the store to make sure he didn't swipe any candy bars. and this was a player who admitted to sometimes not trying to avoid defenders. on purpose. just to run them over. very sad...
