Just caught the end of a FREE webcast. CSUN wins the match in four games. I think they said the scores were: 30-20 30-23 26-30 30-22
There was no webcast announcer only the building announcer. They just had a camera and microphone. Different, but it worked and it was free!
Nice job Matadors!

Matadors Overcome Stanford To Win in Four Games
STANFORD, Calif. - Senior James Lischer pounded a team-high 15 kills and junior Isaac Kneubuhl added 14 as eighth-ranked Cal State Northridge defeated Stanford, 30-20, 30-23, 26-30, 30-22 Friday at Maples Pavilion.
With the win, the Matadors snap a two-match skid and improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the MPSF. The loss drops the Cardinal to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
In addition to Lischer and Kneubuhl, freshman Kevin McKniff had 12 kills and Theo Edwards added 10. McKniff hit an impressive .733 in the match with just one error in 15 swings. Lischer also hit well with a .414 hitting clip. Junior setter Travis Bluemling recorded a season-high 51 assists and sophomore Eric Vance added seven kills and a match-high 16 digs in the win.
For Stanford, Jesse Meredith posted a match-high 19 kills (.500) while Evan Romero and Matt Ceran each chipped in 12 kills. The three hitters combined to take 103 swings in the match. Cardinal setter Kawika Shoji had 47 assists and Stanford libero Brian Lindberg had 14 digs.
The Matadors out-hit Stanford for the match .341 to .162 and out-blocked the Cardinal 12. 0to 8.0 behind seven total blocks from Lischer.
Northridge did not hit below .235 in any of the four games and despite Stanford hitting .406 in game three's 30-26 win, the Matadors limited the Cardinal to an .087 hitting percentage in the remaining three games.
Cal State Northridge continues its two-match road trip as the Matadors travel to 14th-ranked Pacific on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Jan. 12, 2007
Stanford dropped their first MPSF match tonight to No. 8 Cal State Northridge (3-1) at Maples Pavilion. The Matadors defeated the Cardinal with the game scores of 30-20, 30-23, 26-30, and 30-22. The Matadors continued to roll in game two, hitting .481 as a team. Junior Jesse Meredith lead the Cardinal, hitting .800 with four kills, but as a team the Cardinal hit just .034 on the game.
In game three, the Cardinal brought a heightened level of fight and hustle. The Matadors stayed persistent, but the Cardinal's hitting power gave them the edge. Freshman Kawika Shoji dished out 16 of his total 47 assists in game three, while senior Brian Lindberg recorded 4 digs.

I like that the freshman are stepping up, Kawika and Romero. That means good things for the program in years to come.

I like that the freshman are stepping up, Kawika and Romero. That means good things for the program in years to come. It's too bad Stanford couldn't get a true setter to come in along with Shoji. Saw Kawika at boy's nationals and he is a great hitter and could really be a terminator for the Cardinal - he definitely was better as an OH than as a setter. Not surprised to see him able to step in and fill a void....he's a great athlete and will be fun to watch.

At Elephant Bar for at least one game Stanford used the Italian sophomore setter and Shoji as a hitter; I have trouble evaluating setters but the Italian has looked at least competent last year and this. I think Stanford is comfortable with having Shoji's competitive fire running things. A little disappointed in the CSUN result; thought Stanford had a chance to win. Don't know if CSUN stepped up or Stanford regressed.
