Perhaps Gregory Peck? I always admired acting without overacting. Of course it can easily be lampooned.

Who was the guy in the movie about a man and his son in a concentration camp? Man, he was good. Do you mean Roberto Benigni? Yes, that's him. Thanks.

Watched "A Few Good Men" on AMC last night. His voices annoys me, but man Jack Nicholson, is a good actor.

Although not the best by everyone's standard (whatever those standards are), I do like Johnny Depp and Bette Midler.

Johnny Depp is vastly under-rated as an actor.

For women - There is NO contest. Meryl Streep has separated from all.
John Cusack.....that was gooooood......Better off Dead "Two dollars!", Gross Pointe Blank, Sixteen Candles, High Fidelity and Say Anything are my favorites.....yes....workaholic.....but War. Inc .....Martian Child and uuugghhhhCon Air......eeeeeghhh....nope.
Al Pacino
De Niro
Jack
Marlon Brando
Clint Eastwood
Morgan Freeman
Tom Hanks
Anthony Hopkins
Paul Newman
Johnny Depp
Denzel Washinton
1-11 accordinging to AMC
I agree with Pacino as #1 but would move Peck and especially Danial Day-Lewis (who might be the at the top when done)

I've always liked Alan Arkin. (The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter, Catch-22, The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming, etc.)

Another one I didn't see mentioned is Ed Norton. Red Dragon, The Score, Rounders and one of my favorite all time acting performances in American History X.
