www.mpsports.org/pdf/0607/07.mvb.standings.012707.pdfThey look very good this year. ;D This week should be interesting with UCI going to Provo. Congrats to BYU! 4 players in the top 10 in hitting percentage, and at least one in the top 10 for every category. Go Cougers! ;D

Uhm, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but BYU has notched that pretty 4-0 record against poorly performing teams. UCLA (1-5 MPSF) and Stanford (0 against all competition). Their first real test will be UCI at home, then Pepperdine twice mid-month at Malibu.

Yet the MPSF still ranks them #1. I guess they are not as smart as you...lol.
FYI...BYU has been dominant so far. Their serving, setting, passing and blocking is all much better than last year. Even the hitting has improved. They are playing as a team, and as long as they continue to do so they will continue to be dominant.
One more thing...sometimes a team can perform well and still not win the game if they play a team that performs better. When a losing team performs poorly the winning team usually has something to do with it, don't you think? ;D

those aren't rankings, those are standings. Based only on # of matches won and lost.

From the two matches against UCLA on BYU TV i would agree they are dominant.
The question is: Will the team stay as a team near the end of the season with Cala pulling one of his "sorry I missed a team meeting" stunts this early in the season? I guess we will not know if this is a one time occurrence or just the start of something bigger for awhile.

Not saying anything about who's smarter than who, just saying that they haven't been tested yet. Haha, no kidding OC4...maybe holmes could be 'smarter' about the definition of "rank", lol.
I just watched UCLA get demolished by USC over the weekend...it's pretty obvious they ARE NOT playing well. The UCI and Pepperdine matches will be great to see where everyone is at this early in the race.

It will definitely be interesting to see how Irvine responds to the Pepperdine loss this last weekend. Ascertaining everything I've heard Pepperdine put up some serious walls this weekend and the combination of Irvine playing poorly resulted in the 3-0 lashing of the UCI.
I wish I could have seen the Pep/UCI match to give a better analysis, but I have some pretty reliable resources.
As early as it is in the season this weekend for Irvine will have to see the senior leadership step up against a very big and physical BYU team. BYU has been executing powerfully in all their matches and they do not make many mistakes. Provo is a tough place to play in however if any one can bring out the best in their team Coach Speraw will be able to prepare his team mentally and physically.

Pep had incredible blocking stats for sure that night. Usually when the blocking is so one-sided, this is an indication that the team on the losing end is having a very bad night (which happens even to the best sometimes). UCI was never in that match.
I expect them to play BYU tough, but I don't expect them to win unless BYU has a very bad night. BYU was tough at home last year, and this year they are much better. Should be fun to watch.

Friday's match will be on BYUTV. For those who do not get BYU TV on cable, they offer their content (or some of it) online at www.byutv.orgSomeone else might be able to point out where the match will be.
