I was at work when a co worker told us a plane had hit one of the towers. Watched the tv reports and just assumed a small plane accident. The 2nd plane attack was a reality check, sadly. So many memories but what stood out was all the families with their pictures of their loved ones looking / waiting for them to appear. Very hearth wrenching. I am thankful that Osama Bin Laden is not around today. Today would have been a different day if he was still around. news.yahoo.com/blogs/upshot/moments-remember-9-11-ceremony-125807936.html

Tempe Town Lake has a very moving tribute each year. A flag for every person who died with their name, picture hanging with a ribbon. It is a very moving sight while driving past on the freeway.
I watched a show on TV the other night about the building of the memorial at ground zero. So many people never had anything of their loved ones to "bury". Hopefully this memorial will be a place of solace for them. I saw the WTC in 2001, and ground zero in 2003. I am anxious to see this memorial.

Yeah, I'm biased, but IMHO no one sings "God Bless America" like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Here it is with 9/11 pictures.

Muffet McGaw (Notre Dame WBall coach) was booked on United 175 to do some west coast recruiting. Her asst coach talked her into flying with him on a later flight, which was ultimately grounded. She called her husband to say they were renting a car to drive back to South Bend. He told her what had happened to flight 175 - she hadn't told him she had switched flights - he thought she was on 175. I've watched way too many 9/11 shows this past week. The stories of heroism are inspiring. One was about twins who hadh lost their twin in the twin towers. The number of deaths, while huge, could have been so much more. 50,000 people worked in the towers, with another 150,000 shopping, using the subway below. Also wondering how many could have been saved if not for the announcement in the south tower to go back to their offices - the building was secure. The memorial is beautiful, IMO. Can't wait to visit.
