Holy Cr&p! That is unbelievable. Does this shake things up or what?
UCI must have thought this was going to be a lay down but got bushwhacked instead.

WOW! Great win for the Tigers! I was at the Pacific at UCLA match on Friday night. Pacific is good. I was impressed with their overall game. They almost won that match against the Bruins in 4.
Was anyone at the match against UCI? What went down?

wow.....look at the scores from 4 & 5! UCI smoked 'em. UOP squeeked out 1 & 2, but takes 5 15-10? wow - need to go find a box score.

I thought UCI had the match when they were playing so well in games 3 & 4. UOP has been playing some very good v-ball this year. Good for the Tigers!

At Irvine no less. Pacific is playing well this year.
What a tough season to predict. BYU will face a tough away schedule in the near future and will loose some matches also. I think UCI will come out strogest in the long run. UCI will band together after a loss, BYU may have more trouble recovering WHEN they looses one or more.
Beat of luck to both talented teams.

Just got back ffrom the match.
UCI started off ridiculously cold for games 1 and 2. UCI missed serves. The UCI MBs would constantly get frozen, setting up 1 on 1 situations for Pacific OHs and OPP to hit against. Pacific ran their offense on all cylinders.
For games 3 and 4, UCI played like their normal selves (as you could guess from the scores). UCI started to serve better, and Pacific began to serve worse. UCI OHs picked on the Pacific's Setter's small block. UCI's blocking picked up big time, too.
In game 5, UCI missed a lot of serves again and could not execute on offense. Pacfic's OHs heated up again, powering through the UCI block when it was obvious the set would be going to them (because of a bad pass).
Overall, I was really impressed with Pacific's lesser known OH - Nutkevitch. His passing is way too low, but he has size, plays smart, and RIPS on his jump serves. OH - Seppanen played pretty well but did not get set as much as I expected him to be.
For UCI, OH Jablonsky was really inconsistent, which is very atypical of him. UCI's MB - Harrell was incredible offensively. And on defense, Asuka made some great plays, as expected.
Both teams subbed a lot, Pacific with their MBs and OPP, and UCI with OH and OPP. However, both teams ended up playing their original starters by the end of the match I think. Finally, there were some pretty fun rallies, which you don't get to see too often in Men's DI volleyball.
It seems like Pacfic is making a name for themselves, with wins over USC, CSUN, LBSU, UCLA, and now UCI.

At the UCLA match, Nutkevitch played libero. He was an effective passer and played very good defense. I guess they switched him to OH for more height and it worked! Who played libero for Pacific?

I think the only one celebrating this more than UoP is BYU. Gives them the leg up to host the MPSF tourney. I for one will be rooting for Pepperdine to take two next week.
