That picture of Cala putting up a block is amazing. I have had players that tall put up a huge block but with Cala combine that with his reach and vertical...amazing.

That Cala is a beastly fellow for sure. Never even looks like he's trying. If they can ever figure out to hang it up higher for him he'll be even more productive, just on the sheer absurdity of his attack zone. Those Cubans can J-U-M-P.

That has been my question with BYU all along. If you have a player that can hit over the block, why is it you can't get a setter to give him the set there as well? He gets them on occasion, but not regularly. How many players can hit it over the block AND in front of the defense??

Man, I would love to hit against that guy. Take my 5'7" no-jump, overweight, approaching middle-age ass and the flat to sometimes upward trajectory of my hits, and it would be a "tool it off his face all night" situation for sure!
;D

Haha. It would be like hitting against a backboard...he's a pretty solid blocker from what I've seen. Check his blocking technique in the picture...penetration, pike, even 'big fingers'...pretty good if you ask me (much better than Perez's closed eyes wuss-out, haha).

True. But then again, most big blockers make the mistake of assuming that the shorter hitter is actually trying to hit the ball past them, not purposely aiming for their face as a method to getting a slime kill.
LOL.
It's all about timing.
