I just received a query from an 11th grader. He is invited to play in a Sat coed grass tourney at a nearby college. $25 entry fee. Cash prize if you win. He is quite good...depending on who he plays with, he and his partner just might win.
Does this jeopardize his receiving a college scholie?
In the past you could play, but just turn down the cash prize. Then I think you couldn't even play WITH or AGAINST anyone who accepts a cash prize, ever... Frankly, I haven't kept up on this, as it does not involve our program as we are not NCAA.
Anyone have the 800 phone # that I used to read about that one could call the NCAA Compliance folks? I am not finding it on the NCAA Compliance webpages.

I logged on to my NCAA account and did a search. Several areas had "not available". I'll check back tomorrow. The search service is currently unavailable, please contact the system administrator. I tried on my other PC that has XP instead of Vista installed and I got through. I didn't find a number yet but several tools, including sample questions and a powerpoint. Let me know if you are interested in them. If you have access the the NCAA site here is the link (its huge) I am looking at. It may be open to the public. www.ncaa.org/wps/myportal/!ut/p/kcxml/04_Sj9SPykssy0xPLMnMz0vM0Y_QjzKLN4j3CQXJgFjGpvqRqCKOcAFfj_zcVKBwpDmQb2jsph-iH-mq760fADIGJhZelJqXklqkX5AbGlFuaJEa6aioCADobT_A/delta/base64xml/L3dJdyEvd0ZNQUFzQUMvNElVRS82XzBfTFU!?CONTENT_URL=http://www1.ncaa.org/membership/ach/index PSS: You just have to register for an account. I am not affiliated with any NCAA institution.

If I recall correctly, something similar happened to women's NCAA Minnesota players. They accepted the prize and had to sit some of the earlier matches of this season. That having been said, I think that there is a REAL fine line between what these kids are doing and what will be punishable by the NCAA. The fact that it is grass is definitely something in their favor, but the NCAA doesn't recognize beach volleyball, so therefore might lump any volleyball action into the equation. I would tell them to play it safe and turn down the cash when they win.
