Waves sweep: 30-28, 30-18, 30-18.
Ironic enough, Wilton finally put Hakala back at Opp. Hawaii was down 29-26 in game 3, had a swing to tie it and Hakala hits long.
3-12 overall....ouch!!

You must have a typo on that game 3 score then. Gametracker has it as 30-28. What the heck happened in game 2?

No. 1 Pepperdine Sweeps Hawai'i Waves win 12th straight match, improve to The Waves, who improved to 15-1 overall March 9, 2007
Courtesy of Hawai'i Athletics
HONOLULU - Top-ranked Pepperdine knocked off No. 14 Hawai`i tonight in straight sets in front of 3,081 at the Stan Sheriff Center in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's volleyball match.
The Waves, who improved to 15-1 overall winning their 12th straight match, lead the MPSF with a 12-1 mark. The Warriors fell to 3-12 and 3-10 MPSF, dropping their third-straight contest.
In the first set, the fans witnessed 12 ties and four lead changes. With the score knotted at 20, Pepperdine took advantage of a UH attack error and a kill by Wave J.D. Schleppenbach to give them the lead for good and played virtually sideout the rest of the way to win, 30-28.
It was all Pepperdine in Game 2 as the Waves rolled out to an 8-4 lead early and increased the margin to as many as 12 winning handily, 30-18.
Hawai`i took a 4-3 lead early in Game 3 only to watch the Waves reel off four unanswered points. Pepperdine increased its lead to as many as seven on several occasions. But with UH trailing 25-17, the Warriors regrouped and try to mount a huge comeback. Lauri Hakala, who had been on the left side most of this season, started tonight at his familiar spot at opposite. Hakala picked up four of his match-high 18 kills in later part of the game. UH pulled to within with in one at 29-28 before a Hakala hitting error sealed the win for the Waves, 30-28.

Schkud is sick, so he didn't suit up.
The scores were closer than the match really was. Hawaii did well in the first game, staying really close to Pepperdine. However Pepperdine adjusted really well in the second and completely took Hawaii out of their system. The problem then became the lack of a major hitter. Clar didn’t look comfortable on the left side and the passing really struggled overall. Even though Hawaii lost the third 30-28, they needed that miracle comeback to take it to extra play and they didn’t have that in them. Pepperdine had that game pretty much wrapped up but just played loose on the final points.
This is an odd Pepperdine team. Usually they have seem pretty balanced and have a few star players with some minor role players. This team has a great player in Carroll but some solid all around role players around him. I can see why they were giving so many teams fits this season. After watching a few other teams, Pepperdine is the clear #1 team, but they are not without their weaknesses.

I agree with Roy that this team is a bit diffferent than the top-ranked Pepp teams of recent history. This team has pretty good ball-control, an unusual attribute for this tall tree factory. Undersized MB Gaudino has been a revelation and is quietly playing the poor man's Hulse (check his stats...very solid for this offensive scheme). Schleppenbach/Grobe tandem getting it done on both sides of the ball. Hate to not see Sutherland's rocket arm being used for serve or attack, but he's holding it down in the back row. Winder is Winder again, of course -- you sort of take it for granted how good this 6'8" kid really is. He's no stiff...he's got wheels, he can jump...so athletic you never notice his size. I wonder if Caroll and crew can make it 2 out of the last 3 years...or if it'll be UCLA pulling the 2fer!
On the topic of UH though, what the heck is going on? I haven't seen them play yet. They were awesome last year w/ the 'Rican-Canadian-Finn UN-style lineup. Poor Beckwith...they're wasting that guy's talents....

Wait, isnt that what hawaii does? Waste talent? yeah... thats what i thought... The coaches are awful... Get rid of the coaches and u got ur self a NCAA lock forever because they would be able to recruit anyone... Anyways, Beckwith is the man, everyone knows it, he's gonna go pro and succeed under a good coach.. Beyond that we should be concerned about the youth of the program.. 1. Matt Rawson is going to be an all american eventually (junior/senior year), we can all see that.. 2. Ric Cervantes is going to be amazing, imagine an athletic alfy.. Why should we be concerned about these two? Because they might want to go the greener pastures for better coaching. Sorry fellow hawai'i fans, we have to get rid of the coach in order for our hawaii team to be good.

UH would not be able to recruit "anyone", and would not be "an NCAA lock" no matter who the coaches were. 2. What makes you think Alfred Reft wasn't "athletic"?
