Patriots snap two-match losing streak

PRINCETON, N.J. - George Mason's men's volleyball team snapped its two-match losing skid with a 3-1 (23-30, 30-26, 30-22, 30-26) victory against EIVA Tait Division rival Princeton at Dillon Gym in Princeton, N.J. on Friday evening. With the win, Mason jumps ahead of Princeton into second place in the EIVA Tait Division standings, trailing only first-place Penn State.
The Patriots, who lost to NJIT and No. 7 Ohio State in their previous two matches, got off to a shaky start on Friday, falling in the first game, 30-23. However, Mason bounced back to sweep the next three games to improve to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The Tigers drop to 6-6 overall and 4-3 in conference matches with the loss.
George Mason outhit Princeton .308 to .226 in the match and were led by William Price's 20 kills. Mark Burik and Kyle Gramit also finished in double digits, with Burik tallying 13 kills and Gramit 12. Setter Ryan Kwiatkowski led the team with 45 assists and Gramit had a match-high nine digs, finishing one shy of a double-double.
Peter Eichler paced Princeton with 25 kills and eight digs, while Brandon Denham had a match-high 52 assists. Evan Pasion added 11 kills on .588 hitting.
George Mason returns to action tomorrow when it plays another road match at St. Francis (Pa.) at 7 p.m. The Red Flash defeated the Patriots in four games in the teams' previous meeting on Jan. 26 at John Linn Memorial Gym.
