The Bruins won 30-23, 30-22, 30-21 in 85 minutes before 453 fans. The victory raised UCLA's overall record to 14-9. Ball State fell to 10-9 and has lost three straight on the road. UCLA also swept Ball State on Wednesday night. Senior Steve Klosterman, sophomore Jamie Diefenbach and freshman Brett Perrine keyed the Bruins' attack this night. Klosterman recorded 15 kills (.333) and 15.5 points and Diefenbach added 10 kills (.750), two aces and two total blocks for 13.5 points. Perrine contributed 10 kills (.444), an ace and four block assists for 13.0 points. Freshman Dylan Bowermaster came off the bench and spiked six kills (.600) and served three aces for nine points. Klosterman's 15 kills gave him 1,388 for his career, a figure that ranks fourth on the all-time UCLA kill charts. He already ranks first on the UCLA rally-scoring era chart.Junior Matt McCarthy led the Cardinals with seven kills (.538) and four players added six kills. The Bruins will take next week off for final examinations and return to action on Mar. 29 at Pepperdine before traveling to USC on Mar. 31.
