What is THAT here at the top of this website for? It was there yesterday too! Get rid of it! My understanding is the banner varies from poster to poster and is based on the user's search habits. For example, I often have Longhorn related banners. Does everyone else? |

Look at the blue Volleytalk logo. DIRECTLY under this, in text you will see the words "« female chat line advertising from China »"
Note, you don't actually see an ad. You see the string of characters I just quoted.
I believe that this is indicating that this thread is titled "female chat line advertising from China".
However, I'm sure that can't be what the OP was talking about, because the thread didn't exist until the OP started it. The OP was probably talking about a banner ad that has been running for a while now.. The ad shows four pictures of Chinese women and seems to be entirely non-offensive to me.

Ads are the price we pay for having a free bulletin board. I really see nothing particularly bad about these ads. I would have thought these are rather tame by Berserkeley standards.

It's Google AdSense. Some of their ads can be rather interesting depending on the particular verbiage used on a webpage. I'm sure one could design a post to try and get a particular ad to display by using specific words. |
