I was wondering why Men's volleyball isn't on the NAIA website. They need 50 teams similar to what DIII needs to get their own DIII championship. The Molten is also an invitational.

Are there any hybrid NCAA/NAIA schools? I would assume that you can't be both. That would be correct. You can't be NAIA and NCAA.

Are there any hybrid NCAA/NAIA schools? I would assume that you can't be both. Cal State East Bay holds concurrent membership in NCAA Division III and the NAIA. The men's and women's basketball, cross country and golf teams compete in the California Pacific Conference of the NAIA. The baseball, softball, men's and women's soccer, women's water polo, women's swimming and women's volleyball teams compete in NCAA Division III as independents. Cal State Monterey Bay used to be in the same situation, but now they're fully in NCAA Division II. So yes, I think Cal Baptist could be in the MPSF for volleyball and NAIA for everything else if they wanted to.

For CBU to move into the D1 anything they must first be a NCAA SCHOOL. ALL of their athletics programs must go the NCAA. That is a CONSTITUTIONAL requirement by the NCAA. So not only do they lose scholarships for their sports but they also must either upgrade certain programs, which changes their budget, but they must now follow ALL NCAA protocals. That would be difficult in terms of recruiting. From what I know the NAIA has changed some of their recruiting criteria but nothing to the extent of the NCAA regulations (ie age and grade requirements). So for CBU to make the move wouldn't be very prudent right, or ever for that matter. They currently play some of the top teams in the MPSF, and those teams are willing to play them in return. They either win big, as they did this year against BYU and now UCSB, or lose in a competative match as they did last against BYU and UCI. They win the NAIA Men's Title year and year out. NOW. Not so long ago that was reserved to Park University or St. Ambrose. Winning is more of a recent thing. Now they are starting to get those second tier All-CIF or NORCO kids that wouldn't be getting scholarships from the big D1's of the MPSF. This has now given them a small foothold into that core of Cali kids, but for men's volleyball mainly. Remember, that's not their only sport program. So IF they do make the move it has to be INSTITUTIONAL. The NCAA doesn't allow the grandfather rule anymore, from my knowledge.
