I thought the playoffs took the top eight teams. For example 1st vs. 8th; 2nd vs. 7th; 3 vs. 6; 4 vs. 5th. Then what is a "play in match"? Does the top seed somehow get a bye. I thought the Number One Seed hosts, as long as they continue to win. Will someone please explain the playoffs. Bookumdanoaloha

So it'll be: 2nd vs. 7th/8th winner, 3rd vs. 6th, 4th vs. 5th

pepperdine gets a bye to the semi final. 7th and 8th seed play a "play-in" match. winner will play 2nd seend in first round.
7th vs. 8th play in.
First round:
byu vs. winner of play in
6th vs. uci
5th vs. 4th (winner plays pepperdine in the semis)
