Bruins Win Fifth Straight, Sweep Tritons
UCLA captures its 44th straight victory in the series.

The fourth-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team kept alive one of its oldest streaks, defeating UC San Diego 3-0 at RIMAC Arena Friday night.
The Bruins won 30-26, 20-24, 30-28 in one hour and 40 minutes before 851 fans. The victory raised the Bruins' overall record to 19-10, 13-9 in MPSF play. The Tritons lost their 12th consecutive match and fell to 5-22, 2-19. UCLA kept intact its undefeated mark in the series, notching its 44th straight victory against UCSD.
In the first game, UCLA hit .364 compared to UCSD's .125. The Tritons led 10-8 before UCLA scored six straight points for the 14-10 lead. UCSD would close within 26-22 on a UCLA error but the Bruins closed out the game at 30-26.
In Game 2, the Tritons led 14-9 and the Bruins would eventually tie it at 20-20. After UCSD's Jason Spangler's kill brought the hosts to within 23-22, UCLA scored five straight to pull ahead and win the game 30-24. UCLA hit .267 but the Tritons hit .000.
In the third game, neither team could pull away from the other as the score was tied at 16 through 22. UCLA took the first two-point advantage since early in the game at 24-22. The Tritons came right back with a Frank Fritsch kill and UCLA attack error. The Tritons took the lead at 27-26 after a Stephen Shaw and Will Ehrman block. UCLA scored the next three points and closed the match with a Jamie Diefenbach kill at 30-28.
Steve Klosterman and Diefenbach led the Bruins with 16 and 14 kills, respectively. Klosterman added a pair of aces and Diefenbach led UCLA with seven total blocks. Libero Tony Ker led the team with six digs.
Spangler led UCSD with 16 kills and Ehrman added 11.
UCLA will travel to UC Santa Barbara for the MPSF quarterfinals on Apr. 21. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Robertson G
