Maybe Kalima got snubbed. He is having a pretty good season. And yes, Asuka probably didnt deserve to be on the third team, but most of the liberos in the MPSF are very comprable to one another. With these post-season honors, it has a lot to do history/reputation and how hard coaches push for their players to make the team. Asuka was a first-team all-MPSF selection and an All-American last season, so he has the advantage if for no other reason than this. Its probably not fair, but its the way it is.

I honestly don't think Kalima got snubbed. Nothing against the guy, but he wasn't up to par with the rest of the MPSF. Yeah he plays with so much heart and no die, no give up attitude, but he wasn't as great as the other guys that made the team.
I was also kinda disappointed with Brian Beckwith and Lauri Hakala getting third team. Yeah Lauri hasn't had the season everyone expected, but I feel that Brian has had another tremendous season and deserves to be on the first team.
Congratulations to Dio Dante, a well deserved honor, even though once again I thought he deserved first team honors with the way his blocking is and his hitting accuracy.

Well....if I look at the All-Conference teams I would think that UC Irvine would definitely have the best team seeing how they got 6 starters on the various teams. Seems kind of ridiculous to me.
Like I was saying in some previous posts, Winder deserved the POY award. He's one of the leaders on that Pepp team, if not THE leader. He's a smart setter and very gifted as well.
Strange that there was only one OH on the first team, but this year, outside of Cala, none of them were dominant. I would say that even Jablonsky last year wasn't any more dominant than he was this year.
I agree pretty much with the middles chosen, throughout the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams. I would say that Hulse probably should've been put as 3rd team and not honorable mention. Although his attacking still isn't up to a David Smith's, his blocking is better than everyone's except Dante's. Brunner definitely made 1st team strictly based on attacking stats, which are pretty impressive this year.
Other than that, pretty solid choices all around. Interesting to see 2 setters winning the two major player awards. That doesn't happen that often it seems.

I think the MPSF picks are On Line. Just wait when you see the AVCA All American Picks - they are normally never the same as the MPSF picks.
eg. You can make Third Team MPSF, but make First Team All American with AVCA.
Its still an honor to make both squads no matter which team they make. Whether you are 1st or Honorable Mention, you're still an ALL AMERICAN.

Kalima is definitely overrated. Just because he was a senior captain, Wilton wanted to find a spot for him, libero didn't work and outside didn't work all that well either...

Kalima is playing outside because they need him to.

So Winder got it. Well deserved! Y. Perez as NOY was obvious... A bit surprised to see Stowell that low... And Marv was the only possible choice for COY. UCSD libero made it surprisingly high, that team doesn't have a good block and their libero always gets a lot of balls hit his way. And very few of their blocks go straight down, but since their block is small, libero gets many... easier balls. Not to take anything away from leserman (he is good), but maybe I could have seen him switch places with some from HM or 3rd team. I think Kalima is one of the keys to hawaii's successful second half of the season. True, their schedule was easier, but they still played very well. After getting screwed over by their coaches and constant changes, and ever since they went back using the fall line-up, wins started coming along. Maybe Kalima doesn't belong to all-mpsf, but he is defensively and with passing very important for the warriors, just like cervantes at libero... Absolutely retarded to say he plays cause he is a senior. Wilton seems to put people wherever he wants without an apparent reason anyways Good passing lets them use their good middles. Dante should have been 1st team. I am glad beckwith got recognized as well, thought he might not, because the team's hitting % was low. Where was Rawson's HM? Beckwith has been doing a good job, with serving and blocking also. Hakala has been consistently good every night for almost 2 months, ever since he got healthy and moved back to right, where he did have the season people expected. He still had a bad start on the left... and that's why I feel like his all-mpsf pick was more due to the warriors success after the line-up change. Too bad UH didn't play with this line-up all year... All-mpsf does reflect AA-picks too, not fully but they aren't that different. Everyone from 1st mpsf will be AA, and almost everyone from 2nd- mpsf as well. Some other possible AA below 2nd team all-mpsf could be figueroa or maybe beckwith, no HM will make it.
