Not quite sure. BYU lost Cala it seems like to a sprained ankle. It'll be interesting to see how BYU responds w/ their bench players.

Cala will probably not be well in time for the match. BYU is very deep this year though, and they really spread the ball around. They also have some very talented newcomers who have repeatedly shown the ability to step up when needed. Not to take anything away from the best OH in college, but Cala is not to BYU what Patak is to UCSB. I dare anyone to take BYU lightly. The team that does it will be very sad.

I talked with Andrew Stewart (3rd outside for BYU) and he doesn't even know if Cala will play. Maybe he does today, but last night he didn't. My guess would be that Andrew and Ivan will start, and if Andrew is not performing well they will sub him out for Cala. My second guess is that they just start Cala and Ivan (obviously) It will be a great match, but if BYU plays well and keeps their momentum they will win in 3.

Ur insane if u think any lineup BYU uses is going to beat UCI in 5... This UCI team has too much pride and too many seniors to watch their season go down in 3 straight sets. As we saw against Hawaii, Irvine will claw its way into a win in my opinion. I have Irvine in 5

Speraw will work his Magic again. Volleymaster I'm with U. UCI in 5 on a netural court. The Cougars aren't playing at Smith Field House this week.

how did cala get injured? was it bad? He ran into the umpires stand coming down from a kill. I believe the score was 12-6 BYU (game 3) at the time. Bad? Not career ending, but this is not a good time to be without Cala. BYU will beat UCI in 3 regardless. Too much talent, and the team is really playing well now. ;D

If Cala is well enough to play, it sounds like he wont be even close to 100%. UCI is too talented and consistent for BYU to be able to hang without Cala near full strength: UCI in 3.

This is rediculous. In the four matches Cala did not play, BYU won all four. Also, Cala played in all five of BYU's losses. To say that BYU can't win without Cala is total fantasy. BYU simply does not rely on Cala (great as he is) for their fire power the way UCSB relies on Patak for example. We'll see, won't we?

BYU in four. Cala not at 100 percent is still better than most of the nation.

Either way it will be a great match. BYU will not back down this match because of their last meeting with UCI. UCI has beaten BYU before and can do it again. Personally I think BYU will win. If they lose its because of the altitude change.

Couple of things....
Altitude helps BYU....coming down is always better than going up. When you go up in altitude the ball travels out/long, and you can't catch your breath.
Is Cala cleared by the NCAA to play? I thought he was BYU cleared, but not NCAA cleared yet.

They took care of this last year when he had to sit the first part of the year. Seems like this has been a topic resolved last year.
